Dickerson
captures first-ever Late Model Stock Car victory in Strutmasters.com 150
at SoBo SOUTH
BOSTON, VA. — Jason Dickerson has been close before. Saturday night at
South Boston Speedway, the Ruckersville, Va. wasn't just close. He was a
winner. Dickerson
drove the only Ford in the 150-lap race for the Barkhouser Late Model
Stock Car Division to victory lane in the featured attraction of the
Strutmasters.com 150. Dickerson started from the pole position in the
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series event and was only challenged in the race when
the caution flag flew on four different occasions. Jonathan
Cash of Oxford, N.C. started seventh in the 19-car field and slipped to 11th
place at the midpoint of the race when he spun coming out of turn two to
bring out the third yellow flag of the night. Cash didn't throw the towel
in, however. He battled back through the pack, made a pass for second
place on lap 135 and then held on for a runner-up finish in the unofficial
rundown. Cash's
second-place showing, along with a sixth-place run by Jon Denning of
Springfield, N.J., vaulted Cash atop the division point standings after
three of 19 events. Cash thus far this season has two second-place runs
and a third-place finish at America's Hometown Track. Adam
Barker of Hurt, Va. started fourth in the field and finished in third
place after challenging Dickerson for the lead following the race's final
caution period. Speedy
Faucette of Mebane, N.C. garnered a fourth-place run in the event and was
followed in the top five by 17-year-old Cliff Daniels of Smithfield, Va. Denning,
who was involved in a late-race accident with Nick Smith of Hampton, Va.,
posted a sixth-place run. Denning and Smith were battling for second place
when the two went spinning on lap 119. Drew
Herring of Benson, N.C. was seventh in the race and was followed by
Jonathan Bailey of Keysville, Va. in the eighth-place spot. Owen Miller of
Emporia, Va. garnered a ninth-place finish for the night and was the final
driver on the lead lap, while Rodney Cook of Reidsville, N.C., who was one
lap down at the end, rounded out the top 10 performers. Bruce
Anderson cruises to second straight victory in Limited Sportsman Division Bruce
Anderson of South Boston, Va. started from the pole position in the 50-lap
race for the Strutmasters.com Limited Sportsman Division and was never
seriously threatened in rolling to his second straight win. While
Anderson, the points leader for the division, dominated the 13-car field,
the battle for spots in the remainder of the top five was heated
throughout the event, which was slowed by four caution flags. Danny
Willis, Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. was involved in one of those four
cautions when he and Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, Va. went spinning early on
while racing for second place. Despite
heading to the rear of the field, Willis fought his way back through the
pack to gain a runner-up finish. Willis, who began the night third in the
Limited Sportsman point standings, moved into the second place spot, just
six points behind Anderson. Philip
Woods of Goode, Va. placed third in the event, marking his best-ever
finish in Limited Sportsman competition. Ken Roundtree of Gates, N.C.
wound up fourth in the race, while Peregoy recovered from the early spin
to round out the top five competitors in the field. Lee
Anderson, Chuck Watkins score victories in twin 30-lap races for Pure
Stock Division Lee
Anderson of Gladys, Va. and Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C. emerged from twin
30-lap races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division with wins. In
addition to claiming a victory, Watkins, who also had a third-place run
for the night, vaulted to the top of the division point standings. For
Anderson, who finished second in the nightcap, the win in the opening
30-lap race for the division was his first triumph in five years. Quain
Moore of Callands, Va. posted a second-place run in the first 30-lap race,
while Courtney Crosby followed Watkins across the finish line in fourth
place in the 15-car field. Scott Phillips of Roxboro, N.C., the winner of
the season-opening event for the division, rounded out the top five
drivers in the field. Crosby
posted a third-place finish in the nightcap after following Watkins and
Anderson to the checkered flag. Phillips finished fourth in the second
30-lapper, while Moore rounded out the top five competitors. Randy
Smith rolls to triumph in 25-lap race for Southern Vintage Modified
drivers Randy
Smith posted a triumph in the 25-lap race for the touring Southern Vintage
Modified drivers. The Limited Division race for the series was claimed by
Jack Falk. Darryl
Lacks finished second to Smith in the 12-car field and was followed across
the start-finish line by Rodney Cook.
