Herring locks up South Boston Speedway's Late
Model Stock Car crown with 9th triumph of season SOUTH
BOSTON, VA. — Drew Herring of Benson, N.C. entered Saturday night's
racing action at South Boston Speedway with a slim eight-point lead in the
Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division standings. Herring left
America's Hometown Track at the end of the evening with his ninth NASCAR
Dodge Weekly Series victory of the season and the track championship. The
150-lap race was the featured attraction of the Miss Utility 150. Herring
started the event from the third spot in the 13-car field, but took the
lead in the early stages when pole position winner Jon Denning of
Springfield, N.J. tapped race leader Jonathan Cash of Oxford, N.C. in the
rear to send the two cars spinning. When the
race went back under the green flag, Herring had the lead position, a spot
he would not relinquish despite constant pressure from Nick Smith of
Hampton, Va., who wound up second at the close of the race. Owen Miller
of Emporia, Va. motored to a third-place finish in the field and wound up
second in the final points standings. Two-time
winner Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va. posted a fourth-place run in the
race, while Cash recovered from his early-race incident to finish in the
fifth-place position. Johnson wound up third in the final point standings,
while Cash was fourth in the championship chase. Adam Barker

Quackenbush of Lorton, Va. in seventh. Quackenbush was the final driver on
the lead lap. Rodney
Sawyer of Ridgeway, Va. posted an eighth-place run in his first racing
action on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval since the 2001 campaign.
Sawyer was one lap down at the close of the race. Keven Wood

Anderson, who suffered a stop-and-go penalty for the incident with Peregoy,
rallied back through the eight-car field and was running second before
Charles Barnes of Chase City, Va. made a late pass to secure the runner-up
spot on the track. Anderson, a
10-time winner in the division this season, wound up third in the race,
while Peregoy finished fifth and was followed in the top five by Timmy

the field on lap 19. Once in front, Tucker motored in the lead the remainder of the way to score a triumph. Quain Moore
of Callands, Va. finished third in the race and claimed second point in
