EDWARDS
TAKES WIN AT SOUTH BOSTON SPEEDWAY
SOUTH BOSTON, VA
Greg Edwards became the fourth different winner in the Barkhouser Late
Model Stock Car Division this season Saturday night when he drove his Ford
to victory in the 150-lap Late Model Stock car race that highlighted the
Embarq 150 racing program.
Edwards,
from Poquoson, Va., took the lead from Adam Barker on the 78th lap and
drove away from the field to pick up his first career South Boston
Speedway win.
Veteran
Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va. finished second, 12.946 seconds or about
three quarters of a lap down, with Rodney Cook of Reidsville, N.C., Ford
driver Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. and Owen Miller of Emporia, Va.
rounding out the top five finishers.
Only
the top three drivers were on the lead lap at the end of the race.
Josh Oakley of
Rougemont, N.C., Jason Dickerson of Ruckersville, Va., Richard Storm of
Partlow, Va., C.E. Falk III ofVirginia Beach, Va. and Barker rounded out
the top ten finishers. Barker, who had won eight of the tracks first
10 races in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division and is the
current division points leader, encountered a severe vibration in his
Chevrolet and did not finish the race, retiring his car after completing
103 laps. Edwards averaged 84.201 mph in the race that was slowed by
one caution period.
Anderson
Wins Limited Sportsman Race
Bruce Anderson of
South Boston, Va. continued his domination of the Limited Sportsman
Division Saturday night, scoring a flag-to-flag win in the 50-lap Limited
Sportsman Division race. Andersons margin of victory was 4.383
seconds or about a quarter of a lap.
Danny Willis Jr. of
Cluster Springs, Va. finished second with Brian Pembleton of Amelia, Va.,
Tiffany Daniels of Smithfield, Va. and Charles Barnes of Chase City, Va.
rounding out the top five finishers.
Tucker
Wins Pure Stock Race
Justin Tucker of Elon,
N.C. became the sixth different winner of the season Saturday night when
he picked up his first victory of the season in the 30-lap race for the
Budweiser Pure Stock Division.
Defending
division champion and current division points leader, Chuck Watkins of
Stem, N.C., finished second with Quain Moore of Callands, Va. finishing
third. William Ridgeway of Burlington, N.C. and Mark Francisco of Halifax,
Va. rounded out the top five finishers.
King
Wins Legendary Ford Flatheads Race
Jerry King of
Burlington, N.C.took the lead on the 11th lap and drove to victory in the
20-lap race for the Legendary Ford Flatheads Racing Association.
Jack
Hale of Rocky Mount, Va. won the Sportsman Division competition within
that race for vintage modified racers.

Race At South Boston Speedway
NASCAR racing will
return to South Boston Speedway on Saturday night, July 21, with the
running of the Italian Delight 150 racing program.
The
five-race program will be headlined by a 150-lap race for the Barkhouser
Late Model Stock Car Division. Races are also scheduled for the Limited
Sportsman Division, Budweiser Pure Stock Division, the Grand Stock
Division and the Inex Legends Cars Series. Grandstand gates will
open at 5 p.m. Qualifying starts at 5:15 p.m. and the first race starts at
7 p.m. South Boston Speedways Early Bird special with $8 adult
admission until 6:30 p.m. in effect. Admission after 6:30 p.m. will be $10
for adults. Youths ages 10-15 will be admitted for $5 and kids ages nine
and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
