Adam Barker scores first Late Model Stock Division victory in Easter Bunny 150 Saturday at SoBo Adam Barker of Hurt, Va. held on to the steering wheel tight when the green flag fell with 20 laps remaining in the 150-lap Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division race Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.
Barker, who grabbed the lead on lap three of the race, was holding on and hoping to secure his first Late Model Stock Car Division victory. Barker held off several challenges from Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. throughout the event to claim his first Late Model Stock Car victory in the featured attraction of the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Easter Bunny 150.
Over the final 20 laps of the race, Barker had to fend off Ramsey, who claimed a victory in the season-opening Late Model race one week earlier, and was riding right on his rear bumper as the laps wound down.
Ramsey motored to a second-place finish in the 21-car field and was followed by David Triplett, Jr. of Timberlake, N.C., who scored his second straight third-place finish.
Triplett qualified sixth for the race and was running fourth when he got into the back of defending NASCAR Weekly Series national champion Philip Morris of Ruckersville, Va. on lap 117. The accident sent Morris' ride hard into the outside retaining wall and brought out the fifth and final caution period of the event and set up the final 20-lap dash to the finish. Triplett apologized to Morris for the incident via radio shortly after it happened and then during his post-race interview.
C.E. Falk III of Virginia Beach, Va. tallied a fourth-place run in the race and was followed in the top five by Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va., who rallied from a 13th starting position.
Cliff Daniels of Smithfield, Va. was sixth at the checkered flag, while Jerame Donnelly was seventh. Jon Denning of Springfield, N.J., who started at the rear of the field after smacking the wall in qualifying, claimed an eighth-place finish for the night, despite suffering a stop-and-go penalty for rough driving.
Justin Johnson of Roxboro, N.C. was ninth and Jonathan Bailey of Keysville, Va. rounded out the top 10 competitors in the race.
Bruce Anderson sweeps twin Limited Sportsman races to remain unbeaten in 2007 season
Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va. is a perfect three-for-three in Limited Sportsman Division action at South Boston Speedway.
Anderson claimed victories in both 50-lap races for the Limited Sportsman Division. Last week, Anderson, the defending champion in the division, secured a victory in season-opening action for the division.
Anderson led from flag-to-flag in the opening 50-lap race, which was caution-free. Wesley Falk of Virginia Beach, Va. started second in the 13-car field and wound up with a runner-up finish in the first race, while Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. placed third.
Terri Marks of Capron, Va. motored to a fourth-place finish in the opening race, while Tiffany Daniels of Smithfield, Va. wound up in the fifth spot.
In the second race, Anderson started outside of the front row, but grabbed the lead from pole winner Brian Pembleton of Amelia, Va. in the opening seven laps and led the rest of the way to claim the win.
Pembleton placed second in the nightcap and was followed in the third-place spot by Marks. Willis was fourth in the second race, which was slowed by one caution period, and Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C. rounded out the top five competitors.
Nick Igdalsky holds off defending champ Watkins to win 30-lap Pure Stock Division race
Nick Igdalsky of South Boston, Va. grabbed the lead on the 10th circuit and held on the rest of the way to score a victory in the 30-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.
Igdalsky turned in the fast qualifying lap during time trials with a clocking of 18.416 seconds on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval, but started fifth after a pre-race inversion.
Igdalsky moved into the third position in the opening 10 laps when the cars of Chris Crosby of Scottsburg, Va. and William Ridgeway of Elon, N.C. got together while battling for first place. He then grabbed the lead shortly after the race went back under the green flag.
Watkins wound up second in the 18-car field and was followed in the third position by Ridgeway. Chris Seay of Ringgold, Va. placed fourth in the event and Mark Francisco of rounded out the top five competitors.
Cook holds on to win Southern Vintage Modified race
Rodney Cook of Reidsville, N.C. started fourth in the 25-lap race for the touring Southern Vintage Modified Series, grabbed the lead on the fourth lap and held on the rest of the checkered flag.
Cook had to fend off several fierce challenges in the event from Daryl Lacks and Donnie Lacks before collecting the victory.
Donnie Lacks started second in the race and wound up in the runner-up position, while sixth-starter Ricky Seay collected a third-place finish.
Jeff Tate finished fourth in the 14-car field, while Bill Lacks rounded out the top five finishers.
