SBS Opener Is March 22; Season Passes, Tailgating Spots Still Available

SOUTH BOSTON, VA….South Boston Speedway will open its 2008 season on Saturday afternoon, March 22, featuring a full slate of racing with its four regular NASCAR racing divisions.

With the start of the season drawing closer with each passing week, fans are reminded that 2008 season passes and reserved season tailgating spots are still available for purchase.

South Boston Speedway season passes are on sale for $160, a price that represents a $15 savings from the price of the track’s 2007 season passes.

In addition, track officials note that reserved 2008 season tailgating spots on the backstretch are on sale for $285 each. The reserved tailgating spots are very popular among area racing fans as they can pull their car or truck into the tailgating area on the backstretch and have a prime spot from which to tailgate and watch the races along with their family and friends.

South Boston Speedway 2008 Season Passes and reserved tailgating spots may be purchased at the speedway office during regular business hours from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

South Boston Speedway’s 2008 season will include 18 events starting with the Saturday, March 22 season opener, an event which will feature races for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, the Late Model Stock Car Division, the Limited Sportsman Division, the Pure Stock Division and the Southern Vintage Modified Division.

Track officials have scheduled 16 points races for its top three NASCAR racing divisions to be encompassed in 14 race dates.

In addition, South Boston Speedway officials have scheduled several special events for the 2008 season including events for four touring series.

Among the special events on the track’s 2008 schedule is a 150-lap NASCAR Camping World Series race on Saturday night, May 31, an event that will be accompanied by a race for South Boston Speedway’s NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division. The NASCAR Camping World Series is the top step in NASCAR’s developmental ladder.

In addition, South Boston has scheduled two USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series Northern Division races (April 19 and August 9), both of which will be accompanied by an event for the touring Allison Legacy Series.

South Boston Speedway officials have added a new event to its schedule for 2008, that being a Friday night, October 17 event for the newly formed Old School Racing Champions Tour. That series is a new racing series featuring former NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series and former NASCAR Busch Series standouts that will be campaigning at a number of tracks throughout the course of the season.

Another event that has been very popular among fans for the past several seasons, the track’s annual pre-Fourth of July racing event, returns again this season. The Bailey’s 200 on Thursday night, July 3, will be highlighted by a 200-lap NASCAR Late Model Stock Car race and a dazzling Fourth of July fireworks display. A 100-lap race for the track’s Limited Sportsman Division and a 50-lap race for the track’s Pure Stock Division will also be staged that night.

South Boston Speedway officials are still in the midst of planning a special season finale for Saturday, October 25. Details of that event will be announced at a later date.
