Domino’s
Serves Up the Action April 19 at South Boston
South
Boston, Va. (April 19, 2003)—
Domino’s
Pizza served the hot slice April 19 at Big Daddy’s South Boston
Speedway, as the Sheetz Limited Sportsman division heated up the asphalt
on a chilly night at “America’s Hometown Track.” Two-by-two on the
start, Jonathan Bailey #89 swept outside to take the lead from Pepsi
Polesitter Adam Barker #10 on the first lap. With 10 laps in, Bailey
continued to lead, as rookie Bruce Anderson #9 attempted to pick up spots
in the top 10. On lap 21, Anderson slipped around in turn two, bringing
out the first caution. On the restart, last week's winner Wayne Roach #71
went to the outside to pick up position, as Anderson tangled with Ronnie
Crabb #92 on the frontstretch. Crabb cut a tire and slammed the outside
wall in turn one. At the halfway mark, Bailey paced Barker with Bill
Moshenek #27 and Chad Mason #18 looking to track down the leaders. Mason
sliced to the inside of Moshenek to pick up third on lap 32, as Anderson
tried desperately to get back in the top 10. Barker caught Bailey on lap
36 and held closely to his bumper for a shot at the lead. Bunched up
around lapped traffic, Bailey wiggled three-wide as Barker looked for the
win. With five to go, Mason looked inside of Barker, as Bailey felt the
heat. Mason slipped under Barker and claimed second, as Bailey took the
win. Moshenek took fourth.
Pure Stocks were next up with
polesitter Donald Glass #14 unable to fire his car for the start. Lee
Anderson #01 tagged Scott Phillips #1 in turn two, while Tommy Wooldridge
#20 inherited the lead. Four cars going for second made contact, sending
Anderson upside down along the frontstretch. Anderson climbed from his
wild ride as the fans cheered. Red flag cleanup began, as track workers
rolled the car upright. With a fog rolling in, racing went green on lap 4.
Wooldridge took the advantage with Billy Goble #18 and Phillips #1 in tow.
Phillips spun on lap 8, but Wooldridge would not let that get in the way
of his second win this season. Goble made a mad dash in the closing laps
to wind up second, and Phillips drove back to third.
As
mist and heavy fog rolled in, racing was ruled out due to unsafe track
conditions, preventing the second 50-lap Sheetz Limited Sportsman race and
the 150-lap Late Model show from taking green.
Racing goes back to green
April 26 with Pepsi Night. The first 200 fans will receive either a Pepsi
hat or bag. The ASE Danville Community College Tech Prep Student Challenge
is also on the night’s schedule, featuring go-kart challenge races for
six area high schools. The winning school receives a $1,000 prize. Also on
tap is 150 laps for the Late Models, 50 laps for the Sheetz Limited
Sportsman, twin 30s for the Pure Stocks and a 25-lap visit from the
Southern Vintage Modifieds.
Tickets for the April 26
Pepsi Night are $10 for adults, $5 for youth age 10 to 15, and children
