CHAMPIONSHIP
BUILT WITH FAMILY HOMES OF AMERICA AT SOUTH BOSTON
(South
Boston,VA)
With Championships being built on a weekly race basis, Phillip
Morris squared his quest by laying hold of the RACERAP.com pole for the
Coor’s Light Late Models on Family Homes of America Night for the NASCAR
Dodge Weekly Series at “America’s Hometown Track”.
With a 23 car , all-star field, Morris went to work on his
championship bid in the 150 lap feature.
Dean Ward (#2 Winston-Salem, VA) nailed Morris on the start and
claimed the early lead.
Racing stopped after Ryan Rhodes #83 slipped into the turn four
wall.
After Worley answered the apparent Black Flag for rough driving,
Ricky Taylor (#77) spun after the green waved, bottling up the
frontstretch.
No other cars sustained damage and the race went back to green with
Ward in the lead.
Ray Young (#71) made contact with Jonathan Logan (#47) on the
frontstretch bringing out the caution on lap 58.
Ward
led at halfway, with Nick Woodward (#21) taking over second from Morris.
Lap traffic gathered up Nick Woodward and Brandon Butler (#29) in a
spin on lap 91. Jimmy Mullins (#75) elected to pit, surrendering track
position and shaking things up for the frontrunners.
Morris attempted to reel in Ward, while Woody Howard (#30) followed
closely by lap 110.
Butler worked back into the Top 10 by lap 120, however, the leaders
were far from reach.
Ward pulled the field for the final 25 laps to claim the win,
followed by Morris, James Ramsey (#12), Howard, Wayne Ramsey (#51), Jason
Dickerson (#19), Brandon Butler, Eddie Johnson (#92),
Mike Buffkin (#84), and Scott Worley (#88).
Jonathan
Cash (#07 Oxford, NC) pulled the Pepsi Pole Award in Sheetz Limited
Sportsman qualifying and padded his series point lead with a win over Chad
Mason (#18).
Cash bypassed the spinning ride of Bruce Anderson (#9 South Boston,
VA) on lap 33 for the event’s first caution.
Pulling to a good lead on the restart, Cash distanced himself from
Mason until a caution on lap 47.
Mason charged on the restart with 3 laps to go, but Cash held the
win in his grasp, followed by Mason, Tommy Peregoy (#2), Billy Myers
(#05), and Bill Moshenek (#27).
After
being rained out their last trip to South Boston, the Wilborn Brother’s
Automotive Rolling Thunder Modifieds rumbled to life for 50 laps.
Alan Marshall (#17) took the early lead, but Jason Palmore (#37)
went for the lead on lap 10 bringing out the first caution.
Palmore made contact with Mark Slye (#57) as he slipped on the
backstretch.
Slye lost a tire, Palmore lost his chance at the lead, while Owen
Miller (#11) made his move into the Top 5.
Thomas
Stinson (#4) took the lead on lap 21, as Palmore fought his way back to 6th
through the 24 car field.
On lap 28, Stinson slipped in turn 3, causing Eddie Johnson (#05)
to go airborne over the nose of Stinson’s ride, bringing out another
caution.
Alan Marshall took over the lead after the caution, but fell prey
to his own slip on lap 37.
Buddy Emory (#44) tagged Marshall and was black flagged, giving
Johnson the lead with 10 laps remaining.
Johnson held off a charging Palmore for the victory.
Jeff Haggaman (#03) finished third, followed by Alan Marshall.
Tommy
Wooldridge (#20) pulled out to an early lead over Billy Goble (#14) in the
first Pure Stock 30 lap event.
Goble worked in Wooldridge’s tracks before making a late charge
for the lead.
As lap traffic factored in, Goble closed to within inches, as
Wooldridge slid sideways out of turn two.
Goble made contact, spinning Wooldridge and took the lead in the
race and the track points.
Goble claimed the prize, followed by Donald Glass (#18), Scott
Phillips (#1), Scott Slagle (#66), and Lee Anderson (#01).
Wooldridge’s
woes continued in the second 30 lap event.
While charging through the field, after starting last, Wooldridge
made contact with a slower car sending him (without a door skin) into the
turn three wall.
Swaying and swerving on the restart, brought the caution back out
and the field was reset.
Goble charged from the front, as Glass looped his ride and Scott
Slagle moved into second.
After
several cautions for mishaps, Scott Slagle and Scott Phillips tangled for
position, then slammed against the inside retaining wall sending both cars
airborne.
Slagle’s ride lay on its side, while Phillips rested along the
wall.
Both drivers walked away after the incredible incident without
injury.
After a red flag clean-up, Goble went on to victory over Lee
Anderson (#01), Tommy Wooldridge, Donald Glass, and Jason Parker (#55).
Bill
Blair picked up a win in the East Coast Flathead event.
