Phillip Morris mows down the competition again before the rain sets in at the Anderson Lawn Care night at Big Daddy South Boston Speedway.

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (July 12, 2003)  Racing started off tonight with #88 Scott Worley wining a pair of new tires and giving a fan a season pass to South Boston Speedway.  The beginning race warmed up pit road with golf carts racing through an obstacle course to qualify for the best time.  Drivers were penalized if the cones were knocked down but the race was highlighted by #88 Scott Worley almost tipping his cart while trying to hold on to his need for speed.  He walked away with his new set of tires which made the danger worth its while.  The combo was quite an adventure as the teams worked together to complete the race and win their desired prize.

Tonight’s track highlighted events were the GRAND Pure Stock 30, SHEETZ Limited Sportsman 50, NASCAR Late Model 150, and the Southern Vintage Modified 25.

The first race starts off Anderson Lawn Care night with Car #20 driven by Tommy Woolridge on the pole of the GRAND Pure Stock 30.  First lap in turn one had a little shove and go action, but no yellow was called.  #66 Scott Slagle and #18 Billy Goble bumped around on lap 8, while we still held on to the green.  The halfway lap is called as #20 Tommy Woolridge hangs on.  After 30 laps,  #20 Tommy Woolridge holds through as he wins, with # 1 Scott Phillips second, and #66 Scott Slagle third.

The green flag dropped on the SHEETZ Limited Sportsman 50 with # 64 Charles Barnes in the lead.  Barnes held on tight for the lead as # 27, driven by Bill Moshenek inched his way forward to take the lead.  Caution flag was dropped on lap 6 as the tire went down on car # 30, driven by Jeffrey Elmore.  The flag dropped back to green and they never made it all the way around as Barnes went into the inside wall when touched by # 07, Jonathan Cash, which then added car # 5, Billy Myers, #56, Glenn Huddleston, #36, Billy Yarboro and # 11, Ray Ellington to the pile.  The track was cleaned up and we went back to racing with Moshenek heating up the track with Cash hot on his bumper.  Cash took the lead, as  Moshenek’s car took a rest on the track and took us to another caution on lap # 8.  We went back to green and was back to caution by lap 11 when Billy Yarboro turned sideways on turn 4.   On lap 25, car # 9 driven by Bruce Anderson spins a circle on the track as we go back to yellow.  We went back to racing with 25 laps to go with Jonathan Cash leading the number 1 position with Wayne Roach following.  #10 driven by Adam Barker went to pit on lap 28 after doing a little slip and slide on turn 2.   On lap 38 #18 driven by Chad Mason took the lead as number Cash held on tight to win back the lead.  # 21 driven by Wayne Wilson is black flagged on lap 41 due to a leak.  With one lap to go, Mason pulls away to hold the lead as the checkered flag drops.  Car # 30 driven by Jeffrey Elmore spins in turn 4 as he raced to the finish to complete the race.

As the moon peaks over the trees between turns 3 and 4, racing was once again underway with the NASCAR Late Model 150 with car #01 driven by Phillip Morris holding the pole position throne.  Tonight’s race holds a bounty for driver Phillip Morris as he has held the lead for the last two races.  Woody Howard, #30 stays close as the green flag drops, as the crowd in the stands watch the skies, praying for a good race without any rain.  Scott Worley #88 goes behind the wall on lap #1 as his team races to get him back on the track.  Unfortunately, his luck didn’t hold out as it did with the golf carts as their efforts were in vain.  Car # 80 driven by Steve Stallings went into the pits in need of a brief tire repair as he flashed back out of pit road itching to keep racing. Lap #80 goes to caution as car #68 driven by Ernest Winslow does a spin around in turn 4 as we go to caution.  Lap # 83 takes us back to racing,   as the green flag drops and the wind picks up.  Lap # 87 goes back to yellow as #12 driven by James Ramsey went sideways and hit the wall as #18 driven by Warren Thomas gets tied up in the mess.  The race is red flagged on lap 88 as the pileup is moved from turn 3.  The stands start to clear as the skies turn black.  The rain starts to fall, as some true diehard fans cover their heads to stick it out.  The mangled car of Thomas is towed inside as the drivers start back up to get this race finished but just as soon as we hit lap 93, the rain starts and the cars are pulled inside of pit road while crews scramble to get the cars covered while we wait out the storm.  Drivers begin a new race to see who can get to the trailers first while the track starts to fill up with water.  As it continues to rain, race officials make the call and racing is complete for tonight.   Phillip Morris holds it out for another race as the race is called due to heavy rain and the bounty rises for next week’s race.
