The Bounty is claimed as Nick Woodward takes the lead as he wins tonight’s race.

SOUTH BOSTON, VA  (July 19, 2003)….Tonight’s race got underway with the  Southern Vintage Modified 25 with Monk Tate # 88 on the pole.  After a little fender bender on lap 10 in turns 3 and 4, which sent Tate into the pits, we went back to racing with #64, Mark Parks in the lead position.  Parks held onto the lead to finish the race with Ray Eanes #10 hot on his trail.  #24 driven by Bill Lacks,  #31 Randy Phillpott and #44 driven by Donnie Lacks finished out the top 5 and the last  few cars left racing as all others who started ended up behind the wall.

Next to heat up the track, was the Sheetz Limited Sportsman 50 with Adam Barker #10 on the pole.  #27 Bill Moshenek started in the second position.   By lap 1, we went to caution as #92, driven by Ronald Crabb, shot it into the wall and took out # 36 driven by Billy Yarboro, #56 driven by Glenn Huddleston, and #21 driven by Wayne Wilson.  Everyone walked away unharmed and we were back to racing with Barker still hanging on for the lead.    In lap # 13, # 07 driven by Jonathan Cash took the 2nd place position and pulled away from Bill Moshenek.  Caution went out again as Cash and Jonathan Bailey tangled between turns 3 and 4.    After a pretty extensive cleanup, we were back to racing.  After finishing up with a good clean race, Barker held on to the lead with Jonathan Cash and Billy Myers holding out the top three positions.

After a week long wait, we heated up racetrack with the bounty set at $1500 for leader Phillip Morris # 01 who started third in tonight’s race.  Showing his true love for racing, Morris made his way to his car tonight after being under the weather all afternoon while fighting with kidney stones.  # 2 driven by Dean Ward held the pole for this race with #30 Woody Howard right behind.  In lap 12, #4, Frank Deiny and # 51 Wayne Ramsey tangled and we went again to caution.  As the storms went around us and we held out for a full night of racing, Dean Ward held on to the lead to keep it away from Woody Howard.   We went to caution again on lap 43 when Scott Worley and Ryan Rhodes touched and went spinning.  We went back into lap 47 with Dean Ward still on the lead.  The top five positions were held by Woodward, Morris, Mullins, and Worley.   Officials dropped the green on lap 52 and the boys were at it again.   Dean Ward finished the half way mark still holding on to the lead.  On lap 119, Nick Woodward took the lead from Dean Ward and started inching away.  The checkered flag was dropped with Woodward taking home the win to take home the Bounty of $1500.  He will go home tonight with $4500.  Dean Ward held on to second place, Phillip Morris in third and Scott Worley in fourth.  Phillip Morris gave up his win tonight after a tight run with Worley.   This is Woodward’s first win since 2000.  After no Father’s Day gift for Nick’s dad, he sent him a birthday card for his birthday on Monday.  Dad’s only wish for his birthday was, “Just win that race.”  And that he did.  “Happy Birthday Mr. Woodward.”

We finished out tonight’s races under clear skies with the  GRAND Home Furnishings Pure Stock 30.  #01 driven by Lee Anderson was the pole sitter for this race.  Following close behind is   #1, Scott Phillips.  In lap 1, #07 driven by Mark Francisco and # 12 driven by Steven Trickey went sideways but they held on and no caution was called.  After a quick 30 laps and no more incidents, #18 driven by Billy Gobble, #01 driven by Lee Anderson, #14 driven by Donald Glass and #20 driven by Tommy Wooldridge finished up the top five.
