Peyton Sellers sits atop NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division I point standings
SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — It's early in the season, but Danville, Va. driver Peyton Sellers, whose home track is South Boston Speedway, is the early point leader in NASCAR's new scoring system for the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series.
Sellers, who has five wins to his credit on South Boston's four-tenths mile asphalt oval this season, has a comfortable early lead in NASCAR's Division I point standings.
After tallying his sixth win of the season last weekend at Motor Mile Speedway, Sellers, who has competed in 11 events thus far this year, has 658 points in the scoring system. That gives him a 134-point cushion over second place Frank Deiny, Jr., who has posted two wins in nine starts.
NASCAR's championship format awards each race winner 50 points, but adds 10 points for drivers competing against fields of 15-20 cars, which is easily the norm at South Boston Speedway this season.
In addition to having six wins for the campaign, Sellers also has eight top-five runs and has only finished out of the top 10 in two of his 11 events.
At South Boston Speedway, Sellers leads the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division standings by 12 points over three-time winner Drew Herring of Benson, N.C.
Sellers and Herring will continue their bids to claim the coveted crown at America's Hometown Track when South Boston Speedway returns to action on Saturday May 28, for the running of the NASCAR AutoZone Southeast Series event.
The Late Model Stock Car Division drivers as well as the Limited Sportsman competitors and the touring Legends Series performers will all be in action on May 28.
Discount coupons for $5 off the admission price on May 28 are available at local and area AutoZone Stores.
