Bailey's-sponsored event at SoBo on June 25 will feature great racing and fireworks extravaganza
SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — When you think of great short track racing, South Boston Speedway comes to mind. When you think of great short track race sponsors, Bailey's Cigarettes is at the top of the list. When you think of Independence Day, a fireworks extravaganza is a must.
South Boston Speedway will combine all of the above on June 25 when Bailey's Cigarettes, which is headquartered in nearby Keysville, Va., will sponsor racing action for the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division, the Limited Sportsman Division and the Virginia Army National Guard Pure Stock Division.
The Late Model Stock Cars will hit the asphalt for a 200-lap race on June 25. The Limited Sportsman Division will compete in a 100-lap shootout and the Pure Stock Division drivers will test the four-tenths mile oval for 50 circuits.
At the close of the evening, a fireworks display will light up the skies at South Boston Speedway in celebration of the July 4 holiday.
"I am thrilled that we are sponsoring this great race at South Boston Speedway," Bailey's owner Mac Bailey said. "America's Hometown Track is a perfect fit with our American grown, American-made cigarettes."
In past years, Bailey's has sponsored a season-ending event at South Boston Speedway. This year, however, Bailey opted to put his sponsorship dollars on the June 25 event.
"We normally sponsor the November race at the end of the season," Bailey said. "This year we have changed to the June race because I liked the July 4th tie-in.
"Celebrating our country's birthday and enjoying a fantastic fireworks show after the race is a great way to honor our country," Bailey added. "At Bailey's we owe so much to the freedoms offered by our country that this was an easy choice."
Bailey said he also liked the fact that the competitors will be battling for points in the June 25 race as the chase for track titles will be reaching crucial points.
"I like that this is a points race," Bailey said. "Unlike the November race, this race is for points and that always adds to the competition and excitement."
South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice was pleased to announce the continued relationship between the track and Bailey's Cigarettes.
"Bailey's has had a huge impact on racing at the short track level and at South Boston Speedway," Rice said. "Mac Bailey and his entire family enjoy racing and have been willing to promote the sport and help short track racing continue in its popularity. Sponsors like Bailey's Cigarettes are key to this sport and are appreciated very much."
