Donnie Allison Book Signing at South Boston Speedway
Saturday, May 27, 2006
Donnie will be personally signing his new book "As I Recall" at South Boston Speedway on Saturday, May 27, 2006 in conjunction with the Allison Legacy Race Series at South Boston.
Jimmy Creed of the Anniston Star in Alabama who is co-author of the book will also be on hand to sign.
There are many interesting stories in the book beginning with the 1979 Daytona 500 and they are all told "As he Recalls Them".
Donnie tells in his own words about his experience racing at Indy for A.J. Foyt, finishing in 4th and 6th place, two years in a row, and being named Rookie of the Year in 1970 while coming back to the World 600 at Charlotte and winning it.
He tells about his brother Bobby saying that he would never make it as a race car driver. As a young man he had a desire to be a jockey and not a race car driver until a terrible motorcycle accident occurred.
Leaving Miami, Florida to race 6 and 7 nights a week in the southeast on short tracks was a big step for Donnie. He, along with Bobby and Red Farmer took the tracks by storm, winning and finishing one, two and three many times over.
Donnie tells it like it happened with the forming of the DiGard Racing Team and his win in Atlanta that they tried to give to Richard Petty. He talks about the Hoss Ellington Hawaiian Tropic car and crew and Banjo Matthews and what a great mentor he was. He talks about NASCAR and how different racing is today.
The book has sold well over 5,000 copies already and is in its' second printing by Sports Publishing LLC. It can be purchased on Donnie's website at www.donnieallison.com , on the Allison legacy website at www.allisonlegacy.com or in bookstores.
The books sells for $20.
