1.24.08 South Boston Speedway Announces 2008 Schedule Among the highlights of the 2008 season schedule is the return of the NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch East Series and two events for the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series. A new event, a Friday night, October 17 event for the Old School Racing Champions Tour – a new touring series featuring former NASCAR and ARCA stars – is also included on the schedule. The track will close out its season on Saturday afternoon, October 25 with a special event, the details of which have not yet been finalized. "It was a special season for all of us. We celebrated the track's 50th anniversary, recognized a large number of people that have helped make South Boston Speedway the legendary track that it is today, and saw a lot of great racing. "We expect the 2008 season to be an exciting one as well," Rice continued. "With the return of our four regular racing divisions, the Busch East Series and the Hooters Pro Cup Series and the addition of the October event featuring former NASCAR and ARCA stars, the 2008 season should be a great one." The 2008 South Boston Speedway racing season will open on Saturday, March 22 with an afternoon race featuring the track's four NASCAR racing divisions – the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division, the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Southern Vintage Modifieds. South Boston Speedway's schedule for its Late Model Stock Car, Limited Sportsman and Pure Stock divisions consists of 14 race dates with drivers competing in a total of 16 points races. The Southern Vintage Modifieds will compete at South Boston Speedway six times among the 14 dates. Among the track's points races is the annual pre-Fourth of July racing extravaganza, the Thursday night, July 3 running of the Bailey's Late Model 200 featuring the Late Model Stock Car Division competitors in a 200-lap feature race. A 100-lap Limited Sportsman Division race, a 50-lap Pure Stock Division race and a spectacular Fourth of July fireworks display will also be staged that night. Four touring series events dot the 2008 South Boston Speedway schedule. The NASCAR Grand National Division, Busch East Series returns to South Boston Speedway on Saturday night, May 31. That event will feature a 150-lap event for the Busch East Series competitors and a race for South Boston Speedway's Late Model Stock Car Division. The USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series Northern Division competitors will return to South Boston Speedway on Saturday, August 9, for what will be the next-to-last race of the season for the Pro Cup Northern Division competitors. The season's final touring series event will be the Friday night, October 17 event for the Old School Racing Champions Tour. The tour features former NASCAR stars such as Harry Gant, Larry Pearson, Randy LaJoie, Dave Marcis, James Hylton, Jack Ingram, Robert Pressley and former ARCA stars Bill Venturini and Bob Schact.
