Saturday afternoon racing on tap this week at South Boston Speedway
SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — After opening the 2011 campaign with a bang two weeks ago, South Boston Speedway will head into the second week of the season Saturday with more of the best NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing action this weekend with a special Saturday afternoon starting time of 2 p.m.
A total of six races are planned for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model 150 racing program.
The featured event of the day will be a 150-lap race for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.
In season-opening action two weeks ago, former South Boston Speedway and NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Peyton Sellers scored a victory after besting a robust field of 26 competitors.
Also featured Saturday afternoon will be twin races for the Limited Sportsman Division. That event featured a 16-car starting field.
Also on tap Saturday will be a clash for the competitors in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division. Bill Edwards won the season-opening Pure Stock event, which featured a field of 20 cars.
Other races slated for the 2 p.m. event on Saturday include events for the Legendary Flatheads and the IMCA Style Modifieds.
Pit registration will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday. Practice for all divisions will be held from 10:30 a.m. until noon and qualifying time trials will get underway at 12:45 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at noon and admission will once again be $10 for adults and children six and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
