SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — There will be plenty of MAD competitors at South Boston Speedway in 2012.

South Boston Speedway officials announced this week that the Modified Affordable Division (MAD) would be competing at the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval on five dates in 2012.

The MAD Division features high-powered, lightweight racecars. The MAD competitors are sure to please the fans at America's Hometown Track. Their loud engines, open wheels and radical bodywork compliment their performance.

Combined with an economical, reusable race tire, the MAD Division is designed to provide a maximum of speed and excitement with a minimal operating budget that nearly any existing race team can afford to operate.

The MAD Modifieds are scheduled to compete at South Boston Speedway on April 7, May 5, May 26, June 9 and July 21.

"We are very excited to bring the MAD Modifieds to South Boston Speedway in 2012," General Manager Cathy Rice said. "Our fans expect the best of the best at our track when it comes to competition and excitement and we are sure the MAD Modifieds will add to the excitement this year."

The 2012 South Boston Speedway season is set to begin on Saturday, March 10, with the running of the NASCAR Whelen Late Model 300 Presented by Danville Toyota.

South Boston Speedway will host the touring PASS Super Late Model Series for three events in 2012. Those events are scheduled on March 24, June 9, and Aug. 18. All three of those events will also feature twin races for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

The annual 200-lap FindItHere.com NASCAR Whelen Late Model Stock Car race and the annual Fireworks Extravaganza will be held on Tuesday, July 3. That event will also feature a 100-lap race for the Limited Sportsman Division and a 50-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will visit the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval on Saturday, April 14. That event will also feature twin races for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

South Boston Speedway officials also announced plans to have a return visit of the popular Monster Truck Show in 2012. A date for that event will be released later.

The dates for NASCAR Whelen All American Series action at South Boston Speedway for the Late Model Stock Car Division, Limited Sportsman Division and Budweiser Pure Stock Division include April 7, May 5, May 12, May 26, June 16, July 14, July 21, Aug. 4, Sept. 1 and Sept. 15.
