SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — Mother's Day Weekend has arrived and South Boston Speedway has the perfect present for the racing mom in your life — a night of NASCAR Whelen All American Series action at America's Hometown Track.
Many of the region's top NASCAR Whelen All American Series competitors will invade South Boston Speedway for the second straight weekend on Saturday, May 12 for the running of the CenturyLink presents Bojangles Night Late Model 150 racing program.
In honor of Mother's Day on Sunday, all moms will be admitted to Saturday's event for only $5.
Five races are planned as part of the CenturyLink presents Bojangles Night Late Model 150. The engines will roar to life for the opening event of the evening at 7 p.m.
The featured attraction of the night will be a 150-lap race for the drivers in the highly competitive NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.
There have been four different winners in the opening four points races of the campaign for the Late Model Stock Car Division competitors.
One-time winner Matthew Bowling currently sits atop the division standings and is being pursued by former South Boston Speedway and NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Peyton Sellers, who is still seeking his first victory of 2012.
One-time winners Deac McCaskill and Darrell Gilchrist are third and fourth in the standings, while Dennis Holdren occupies the fifth-place spot in the standings.
Also scheduled as part of Saturday night's racing action will be an event for the Limited Sportsman Division, twin races for the drivers in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and a shootout for the touring Legendary Ford Flatheads Racing Association.
After scoring a pair of victories last weekend, Danny Willis Jr. has surged atop the point standings in the Limited Sportsman Division. He is seven points ahead of Bobby McCarty, who finished second in twin racing action last week. Mike Jones is third in the standings and is followed by Chris Crosby in fourth and Blake Stallings in fifth.
Joe Allred III is the leader in the chase for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division. Courtney Crosby owns the second-place position and is six points ahead of a third-place tie between Stuart Crews and Trey Crews.
