Tuesday, July 3 at SoBo: Big races, big money, big fireworks show scheduled
SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — If you are looking for fun, excitement and great racing action, the FindItHere.com NASCAR Late Model 200 at South Boston Speedway on July 3 is the answer to your search.
South Boston Speedway will return to racing action on Tuesday, July 3 for the running of some of the best NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing action of the season. The night of racing will get the green flag at 7 p.m. and will be preceded by a Fan Appreciation Session trackside at 5:30 p.m.
Three big money races are planned as part of the FindItHere.com NASCAR Late Model 200. The featured attraction of the night will be a 200-lap shootout for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division. The winner of the 200-lap event will receive $5,000.
Also scheduled as part of the FindItHere.com NASCAR Late Model 200 is a 100-lap race for the Limited Sportsman Division and a 50-lap event for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.
At the close of the evening, the annual South Boston Speedway Fireworks Extravaganza will be held and will once again light up the skies over the four-tenths mile asphalt oval with the best fireworks display in the area.
One-time winner Matthew Bowling will head into the July 3 event sitting atop the standings in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.
Bowling is 17 points ahead of second-place Peyton Sellers, a two-time winner this season. Sellers is a former South Boston Speedway and NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion.
Lee Pulliam, a four-time winner in 2012 at South Boston Speedway is third in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division standings and is followed in the fourth position by Dennis Holdren. Austin Thaxton rounds out the top five competitors in the championship chase.
After sweeping a pair of victories last weekend at America’s Hometown Track, Bobby McCarty has surged back to the top of the standings in the Limited Sportsman Division.
McCarty is only four points ahead of Danny Willis, Jr. in the chase for the division crown. Mike Jones is third in the standings and is followed in the top five by Blake Stallings in fourth and Mike Maresca in the fifth position.
In the Budweiser Pure Stock Division ranks, Trey Crews is the leader in the chase for the title by a mere four points over Joe Allred, III, while Randy Hupp is third and is only 14 points ahead of fourth-place Stuart Crews.
Advance tickets for the FindItHere.com NASCAR Late Model 200 are currently on sale and priced at $15 for adults and can be purchased until 5 p.m. Monday, July 2. Tickets on the day of the race will be priced at $20.
Pit registration will begin at 11 a.m. on July 3. Practice for all divisions will be held from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 4 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 3:30 p.m.
