NASCAR Whelen Late Model 150 Saturday at South Boston Speedway

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — For the second straight weekend, the engines will roar to life for competitive NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing action at South Boston Speedway on Saturday, July 21.

America’s Hometown Track will host the NASCAR Whelen Late Model 150 racing program Saturday with the first of six races scheduled to receive the green flag at 7 p.m.

The featured attraction of the night will be a 150-lap race for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

While Matt Bowling, a one-time winner in 2012, continues to lead the way in the chase for the 2012 NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division championship, hard-charging Lee Pulliam is closing fast.

Pulliam reeled off a pair of victories last weekend and has now scored seven triumphs at South Boston Speedway this season. Pulliam is now second in the title chase and is only 18 points behind Bowling.

Peyton Sellers sits in third place in the championship chase and has two victories this season, is 17 points behind Pulliam.

Also highlighting Saturday night’s event will be twin races for the Limited Sportsman Division. Heading into the two races, the championship battle between Bobby McCarty and Danny Willis, Jr. continues to be intense.

McCarty is currently the point leader in the division; however, he is only five points ahead of Willis. Blake Stallings is third, while Mike Jones owns the fourth spot in the standings.

Other events scheduled Saturday night include a race for the competitors in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and twin shootouts for the drivers in the MAD Modified Division (Modified Affordable Division).

Joe Allred, III leads the way in the chase for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division championship. Allred is only eight points ahead of second-place Trey Crews, while Randy Hupp is third and Stuart Crews is fourth.

Hunter Slayton sits atop the MAD Modified Division standings, while Jimmy Humblet owns the runner-up spot.

Pit registration will begin at 1:00 p.m. on July 21. Practice for all divisions will be held from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and admission will be $10 for adults and children six and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
