NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour to invade SoBo on April 13 to compete ‘under the lights’
SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — America’s Hometown Track will sit silent this weekend; however, that will all change on Saturday, April 13 when the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour invades the historic four-tenths mile for the running of the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150 racing program.
The event, which will also feature a pair of 75-lap races for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division will be the first “under the lights” at South Boston Speedway in 2013.
The exciting three-race program will roar to life at 7 p.m.
In addition to the action-packed racing featured in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour and the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division, the newest class of honorees for the Virginia Motorsports Hall of Fame will be inducted during a pre-race ceremony.
When the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division competitors hit the track on April 13, the star-studded field will have its eye focused on points leader Lee Pulliam, the defending NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion.
Pulliam has won three of the four Late Model Stock Car Division races at America’s Hometown Track this season and has bested fields that have featured the region’s most competitive performers. Among those who have challenged Pulliam for victories this season are former NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champions Philip Morris and Peyton Sellers.
An additional fan attraction slated for April 13 will be the famous XL-1 (Experimental Lincoln Number One), which is owned by former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team owner Ray Evernham. The car, which is one of the most famous in NASCAR Modified history, will be on display at South Boston Speedway on April 13.
Grandstand gates will open on April 13 at 4 p.m. Qualifying time trials for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division will begin at 4:15 p.m. and will be followed by time trials for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour competitors.
Prior to the start of green-flag racing action at 7 p.m., a trackside Fan Appreciation Session will be held at 6 p.m.
Earlier in the day, registration for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will begin at 8:30 a.m. Registration for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division will begin at 11:30 a.m.
Practice is set to begin at 1 p.m. and conclude at 3 p.m.
