SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — South Boston Speedway officials will kick-off the Memorial Day Weekend in style on Saturday, May 25 when the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval hosts the Bojangles NASCAR Whelen Late Model 150 racing program.
The May 25 night of NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing action will feature five events, with the competitors in the first event scheduled to roll off the starting line at 7 p.m.
The featured attraction of the night will be a 150-lap race for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.
Defending NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Lee Pulliam continued to add to his lead in the 2013 South Boston Speedway Late Model Stock Car Division title chase last weekend. Pulliam collected a pair of victories in twin 75-lap races last weekend to push his win total to seven at America’s Hometown Track this season.
In 10 starts at South Boston Speedway this year, Pulliam has tallied seven wins and two second-place finishes.
Bobby McCarty sits in second place in the standings. He currently has a 36-point advantage over third-place Dustin Storm. Former multi-time NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Philip Morris is fourth in the standings. Morris is eight points behind Storm and 18 ahead of fifth-place Austin Thaxton.
Also featured as part of the Bojangles NASCAR Whelen Late Model 150 racing program will be an event for the Limited Sportsman Division, twin races for the drivers in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, and a battle for the touring Legendary Ford Flathead Racing Association.
Danny Willis Jr., who has motored to three wins in 2013, sits atop the standings in the Limited Sportsman Division. He is 42 points ahead of second-place Garrett Bunch.
Michael Maresca is third in the standings, 12 points behind Bunch and only two ahead fourth-place Blake Stallings, and only five ahead of fifth-place Tommy Peregoy.
The twin races for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division on May 25 could play a key role in the chase for the 2013 division championship.
Randy Hupp currently leads the way by 12 points over Austin Milam. Defending champion Joe Allred and Stuart Crews are tied for third place, just eight points behind Milam, and eight ahead of fifth-place Bruce Mayo.
Pit gates will open Saturday, May 25 at 1 p.m. and practice for all divisions will be held from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Grandstand gates will open Saturday, May 25 at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials to set the starting grids for the day of racing will roll off at 5:30 p.m.
Military honored this Memorial Day weekend. Active and retired military with proper ID will receive free admission.
Admission will be $10 for adults and children six and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
