SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — Want to get into competitive racing the cheapest way possible? If so, South Boston Speedway has the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.
The Hornets Division will begin competing on South Boston Speedway’s historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval in 2014. As a precede to the action the division will produce next season, an exhibition race for the Hornets will be run Saturday night, Aug. 31 as part of the Italian Delight Family Restaurant presents Charles Anderson Lawn Care Night racing program.
The Hornets Division will be a NASCAR-sanctioned division at South Boston Speedway. It is an entry-level division that features front wheel drive four-cylinder cars with street tires.
“It’s the cheapest way to start racing at South Boston Speedway,” Nick Igdalsky, South Boston Speedway Executive Vice President said. “The division will feature the closing racing action at South Boston.”
Igdalsky will compete in the exhibition this race on Saturday night against a trio of competitors from Caraway Speedway.
“I will be racing in one of the two cars that were purchased by South Boston Speedway,” Igdalsky explained. “At the end of the night, both of the cars will be put up for sale. The cars will be race-ready. All you’ve got to do is get in them and go racing.”
The rules for the Hornets Division will match the rules used at other area tracks that feature the division, Igdalsky explained.
When the division begins competing next season, a random draw will be used to set the starting field, Igdalsky said. That, he added, will provide excitement for the fans.
