Turn on the lights! South Boston Speedway to host 1st night race of the season Saturday
Easter Bunny will also be on hand for an Easter Egg Hunt

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — South Boston Speedway will return to action this weekend with its first race under the lights in 2014.

America’s Hometown Track will host the Charles Anderson Lawn Care presents Italian Delight Family Restaurant NASCAR Late Model 150 racing program Saturday. The first race of the night will get the green flag at 7 p.m.

Five action-packed races will be featured Saturday night, and will be preceded by a visit from the Easter Bunny and an Easter Egg Hunt for all children in attendance.

The featured attraction of the night will be a 150-lap race for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

Peyton Sellers, a former NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion and a two-time winner at South Boston Speedway this season, currently leads the standings in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division; however, he only has a two-point cushion over former division champion Matt Bowling.

Bobby McCarty is third in the standings and is followed by one-time winner Josh Oakley in the fourth-place spot, and one-time winner Austin Thaxton in fifth place. Thaxton is only two points behind Oakley.

Also featured Saturday night will be races for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, the Modified Division and the new Hornets Division.

Trey Crews has scored one win this season and leads the standings in the Limited Sportsman Division by one point over Tommy Peregoy. J.D. Eversole and Daryn Cockran are currently tied for third place and are only three points ahead of one-time winner Danny Willis Jr., who sits in fifth place. Willis is the division’s defending champion.

Greg Autry has scored a pair of victories in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and leads Johnny Layne and Bruce Mayo in the chase for the division crown.

Jimmy Humblet, a one-time winner in the Modified Division, leads Mike Rudy by five points in the standings, while Kevin Currin is the early points leader in the Hornets Division over Austin Milam.

Pit gates will open on Saturday, April 19 at 2 p.m. and practice for all divisions will be held from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Qualifying time trials will roll off at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open 5 p.m.

Admission will be $10 for adults. Children, ages six and under, will be admitted free with a paid adult. Season tickets, priced at only $150, currently remain on sale and can be purchased at the speedway office.
