Mobil 1 NASCAR Late Model Twin 75 racing program slated Saturday at South Boston Speedway

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — South Boston Speedway will kick off the Memorial Day Weekend Saturday night, May 24 with the running of the Mobil 1 NASCAR Late Model Twin 75 racing program.

In honor of Memorial Day Weekend and to honor all military personnel, America’s Hometown Track is also hosting Military Appreciation Night this weekend. All military personnel will be admitted free on Saturday with proper identification.

Five action-packed races are scheduled as part of the Mobil 1 NASCAR Late Model Twin 75 racing program. Highlighting the night of racing, which will get cranked up at 7 p.m. will be a pair of 75-lap races for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division.

Also scheduled as part of the NASCAR Late Model Twin 75 racing program are events for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Champ Karts.

The chase for the 2014 NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division championship at South Boston Speedway championship is extremely tight heading into Saturday’s pair of 75-lap battles.

Former NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Peyton Sellers has motored to three wins this season at the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval; however, Sellers is only seven points ahead of former track champion Matt Bowling.

There is also an intense battle ongoing for the third place position in the track standings. Bobby McCarty currently owns third place in the standings; however, he is only one point ahead of Austin Thaxton. Josh Oakley sits in fifth place and is only 10 points behind Thaxton. Both Thaxton and Oakley have recorded one win this season.

Trey Crews owns an 18-point cushion in the battle for the Limited Sportsman Division championship on the strength of a pair of victories thus far this season. Daryn Cockram is in the runner-up spot in the standings and is six points ahead of third-place Daryl Carver.

Tommy Peregoy is in fourth place in the Limited Sportsman Division ranks. He is only three points ahead of defending division champion Danny Willis Jr., who has scored one triumph in 2014.

Three-time winner Greg Autry has surged to the top of the standings in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division. He sits in front of a second-place tie between Johnny Layne and Bruce Mayo.

Pit gates will open on Saturday at 2 p.m. and practice for all divisions will be held from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Qualifying time trials will roll off at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open 5 p.m.

Admission will be $10 for adults. Children, ages six and under, will be admitted free with a paid adult. Season tickets, priced at only $150, currently remain on sale and can be purchased at the speedway office.
