SoBo champ Peyton Sellers locks up 2nd straight Virginia Late Model Triple Crown

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — Peyton Sellers, the 2014 South Boston Speedway NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division champion, secured another honor Sunday afternoon at Martinsville Speedway.

Sellers held off fellow South Boston Speedway regular Matt Bowling by two points to win the Virginia Late Model Triple Crown and the $10,000 purse that went along with the title.

The Virginia Late Model Triple Crown consisted of the Dr. & Mrs. Maresca of St. Lawrence Radiology Presents Thunder Road Harley Davidson NASCAR Late Model 200 on July 3 at South Boston Speedway, the July 26 Hampton Heat 200 at Langley Speedway and the MDCU 300 Sunday at Martinsville Speedway.

Sellers tallied 76 points to claim the Virginia Late Model Triple Crown championship.

Sellers finished third in the Dr. & Mrs. Maresca of St. Lawrence Radiology Presents Thunder Road Harley Davidson NASCAR Late Model 200 at South Boston Speedway, and fourth in the Hampton Heat 200 at Langley Speedway, and 12th Sunday in the MDCU 300 at Martinsville Speedway.

Sellers challenged for a victory throughout much of the MDCU 300 and was on the inside of the front row when the green flag fell for a restart with two laps remaining in the event. A late-race accident, however, relegated Sellers to the 12th-place finish, but did not eliminate his chances of claiming the additional $10,000 bonus.

Bowling used a sixth-place finish in the MDCU 300 at Martinsville Speedway to vault into second place in the final standings. He had earlier posted finishes of fifth in the Hampton Heat 200 at Langley Speedway and ninth in the Dr. & Mrs. Maresca of St. Lawrence Radiology Presents Thunder Road Harley Davidson NASCAR Late Model 200 at South Boston Speedway.

C.E. Falk, who entered the MDCU 300 at Martinsville Speedway in second place in the Virginia Late Model Triple Crown standings, posted a 23rd place Sunday to finish in third place in the standings, 19 points behind Sellers.

Falk won the Hampton Heat 200 at Langley Speedway and finished 12th in the Dr. & Mrs. Maresca of St. Lawrence Radiology Presents Thunder Road Harley Davidson NASCAR Late Model 200 at South Boston Speedway.

Deac McCaskill and Kaz Grala rounded out the top five in the final Virginia Late Model Triple Crown standings.
