South Boston Speedway officials honor 2014 champions, prep for start of the 2015 campaign

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — South Boston Speedway officials honored the 2014 champions and presented other accolades Saturday, Jan. 10 at a special awards ceremony at the Berry Hill Resort and Conference Center in South Boston.

The top three finishers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division, the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, the Modified Division and the Hornets Division were all honored at the ceremony.

The 2014 champions included Peyton Sellers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division; Danny Willis Jr. in the Limited Sportsman Division; Greg Autry in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division; Jimmy Humblet in the Modified Division; and Kevin Currin in the Hornets Division.

The division runner-ups in 2014 included Matt Bowling in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division; J.D. Eversole in the Limited Sportsman Division; Bruce Mayo in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division; Mike Rudy in the Modified Division; and Austin Milam in the Hornets Division.

Third-place finishers in the 2014 division battles included Austin Thaxton in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division; Trey Crews in the Limited Sportsman Division; Johnny Layne in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division; Joe Scarborough in the Modified Division; and Bobby Fleming in the Hornets Division.

Awards for the most victories in 2014 were presented to Lee Pulliam in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division; Willis and Eversole in the Limited Sportsman Division; and Autry in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

Awards for the AR Bodies most pole positions earned in 2014 were claimed by Bowling in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division; Willis in the Limited Sportsman Division; and Autry in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

The lap leader awards for the season were claimed by Bowling in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division; Willis in the Limited Sportsman Division; and Autry in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

Other awards presented Saturday night included Michael Maresca, Rookie of the Year in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division; Crews, Rookie of the Year in the Limited Sportsman Division; Willis, South Boston Speedway’s Overall Most Popular Driver; and Kaz Grala; UNOH Youth Achievement Award.

The 2015 NASCAR Whelen All American Series season at South Boston Speedway is just around the corner. A pair of 100-lap races for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division will highlight the first event of the season on Saturday, March 14. That first event will also feature action for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Hornets Division.

A season pass to see every scheduled event in 2015 can be purchased for only $150 and season ticket holders will not only gain entry into every event during the upcoming season, they will also be invited to a special preseason event on Saturday, March 7.

South Boston Speedway will host its annual Media Day on Saturday, March 7. Season ticket holders will be able to take part in an exclusive picnic and meet and greet session with the competitors who will be on hand that day for the final preseason practice before the new season begins one week later.

Also highlighting the upcoming schedule in 2015 will be the annual pre-Fourth of July racing event at America’s Hometown Track on Friday, July 3. In addition to a 200-lap NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division race, a 100-lap Limited Sportsman Division event, and a 50-lap Budweiser Pure Stock Division clash, the July 3 event will also feature South Boston Speedway’s annual Fireworks Extravaganza.

The 2015 schedule includes four major touring series events. The track will host two races for the touring NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. Those events are slated for April 4 and Sept. 19. Two races for the PASS Super Late Model Series are also on the schedule for June 6 and Aug. 15.
