SoBo’s Easter Weekend event to feature NASCAR Whelen Southern Modifieds, Late Models in Saturday afternoon racing action

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — The first of two appearances in 2015 for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour at South Boston Speedway is scheduled this weekend.

The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will invade America’s Hometown Track Saturday, April 4 for the running of the Easter Bunny NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour 150. Also featured as part of Saturday’s 2 p.m. event will be a pair of 75-lap races for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

Prior to the racing action, the Easter Bunny will stop by South Boston Speedway to host an Easter Egg Hunt at noon and also participate in a Fan Appreciation Session trackside before the green flag waves for racing action at 2 p.m.

Kyle Ebersole and George Brunnhoelzl are the only former NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour winners at South Boston Speedway who are currently entered for Saturday afternoon’s clash.

There have been six different winners in NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour action in the previous seven races at the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval.

Brunnhoelzl is the only driver who has claimed a wire-to-wire victory at South Boston Speedway in prior NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour action. He pulled off that feat in April of 2013.

Also scheduled to bid for a victory Saturday afternoon is current NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour points leader Eric Goodale, who has one victory this season, and currently owns an eight-point cushion over Jason Myers.

Goodale won the season-opening event for the tour on March 15, while Andy Seuss scored a victory on March 28. The first two races of the season were held at Caraway Speedway.

The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour is also scheduled for an appearance at South Boston Speedway on Sept. 19.

Former NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Philip Morris and current NASCAR Camping World Truck Series standout Timothy Peters claimed victories in the first two NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division when twin 100-lap races were held on March 21.

Grandstand gates will open at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 4 and qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 11:45 a.m. The Fan Appreciation Session will be held at 1:15 p.m.

Advance tickets to the April 4 event are priced at $10 and can be purchased through 5 p.m. Friday, April 3. Adult general admission tickets on race day will be priced at $15. Children, ages 7-12, will be admitted for $5 each with a paying adult, and children ages six and under will be admitted free with a paying adult.

South Boston Speedway will once again host the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown this year. The eighth annual event is scheduled for April 23. A limited number of advanced tickets and suite tickets remain on sale for the event and can be purchased at the speedway office.

The Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown benefits the Denny Hamlin Foundation and its ongoing support of Cystic Fibrosis research and treatment. Among the competitors who are scheduled to compete in this year’s event are Chase Elliott, the 2014 NASCAR XFINITY Series champion, along with other NASCAR stars such as David Ragan, Timothy Peters, Hermie Sadler, Jeb Burton and Gray Gaulding.
