Historic Racing Celebration
May 2, 2015 at the Historic South Boston Speedway presented by the Halifax County Heritage and Antique Machinery Festival.

On Saturday, May 2, 2015, the Halifax County Heritage Festival Committee invites vintage race car owners, drivers, crew members, and friends to attend the 12th Annual Halifax County Heritage and Antique Machinery Festival at the Halifax County Fairgrounds in South Boston, VA to display their vintage race cars for thousands of festival visitors to see and visit with some of the personalities that ushered in the sport to national prominence. In addition to the static display at the Halifax County Fairgrounds during the festival, the historic South Boston Speedway, adjacent to the fairgrounds, will open the track for vintage racecar owners and drivers to run laps as a part of the festival attractions.  The event will also offer the opportunity for a fan/driver reunion and other related activities throughout the weekend of May 1-3, 2015.

South Boston Speedway’s General Manager Cathy Rice, and Nick Igdalsky, Vice President of Pocono Speedway and owner of the South Boston track, welcome all enthusiasts to this observation of the track’s history from its founding in 1957.

Vintage race car owner and driver Garland Ricketts, along with Butch Blanks, members of the Halifax County Heritage Festival Committee, are the race car event coordinators again this year and are excited to take the annual static display of vintage race cars at the Halifax County Heritage and Antique Machinery Festival to another level by adding a feature that further showcases the heritage of these race cars with a running of the cars on the track. The entire event is open to all vintage Flathead racecars, Early Coupe and Sedan Bodied racecars, Steel Bodied Late Model stock cars, Late Model Sportsman, Grand National, and others.

The tentative schedule for Saturday, May 2, 2015 is as follows:

9:00 am: Static Display at Heritage Festival at the Halifax Co. Fairgrounds (optional)
10:00 am – 12 Noon: Registration and Safety Inspection at South Boston Speedway

1:00 pm: Parade Laps for all race cars
2:00 pm – 4:00 pm: Practice Laps by Class
