NASCAR Late Model 100 racing program scheduled Saturday, May 23 at SoBo

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — After taking a one-week break from NASCAR Whelen All American Series racing this weekend, South Boston Speedway will return to action on Saturday, May 23, with the running of the NASCAR Late Model 100 racing program.

A total of five events are scheduled as part of the NASCAR Late Model 100 racing program. The first race of the night will get the green flag at 7 p.m.

Highlighting the May 23 racing action will be a 100-lap race for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

The Limited Sportsman Division competitors will hit the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval for a pair of 25-lap races, and events are also scheduled for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Budweiser Hornets Division.

Two-time NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion Lee Pulliam, a three-time winner this season at America’s Hometown Track, currently sits atop the standings in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

Pulliam holds a slim two-point edge over one-time winner Matt Bowling, who is a former Late Model Stock Car Division champion at South Boston Speedway.

Juan Garcia is third in the Late Model Stock Car Division standings and is followed in the top five by Austin Thaxton in fourth and Quin Houff in the fifth spot.

Danny Willis Jr., who owns a pair of victories in the Limited Sportsman Division this year, has opened a 20-point cushion over Joey Throckmorton as he seeks his third consecutive division championship.

Trey Crews and Calvin Meadows are currently tied for third place in the Limited Sportsman Division standings, while Billy Myers rounds out the top five.

Greg Autry and Stuart Crews are battling in a close race for the points lead in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division. Autry currently leads the title chase by two points over Crews.

Eric Winslow is the leader in the Budweiser Hornets Division. He has opened a 21-point lead over Kirstin Simmons.

Registration and pit gates will open on May 23 at 2 p.m. with practice for all divisions scheduled from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 5:30 p.m.

Adult admission is $10. Children, ages six and under, will be admitted free with an adult.
