CARS Tour Will Make First Stop At South Boston Speedway In 2017

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (October 11, 2016) – South Boston Speedway revealed one piece of its 2017 racing schedule today, and if it’s any indication of the full slate, it’s going to be an impressive season.

For the first time, the popular CARS Tour will be making a stop at the .4-mile oval on Saturday, September 30.

The CARS Tour offers a unique two-race format, featuring Super Late Models in one race, and Late Model Stock Cars in the other.

“We are excited about the CARS Tour coming to South Boston. It’s going to be a great night of racing. The CARS Tour events always have great car counts and exciting racing,” said Cathy Rice, general manager of South Boston Speedway. “We are always looking for the best possible racing for our fans and we believe this is something our fans will love.”

“When you think of Late Model Stock racing, the two tracks that come to mind are Hickory and South Boston. We have been fortunate enough to race at Hickory ever since beginning operation and now we get to compete at the other legendary venue,” said Jack McNelly, owner of the CARS Tour. “All of us are super excited to be able to bring our show to such an amazing facility. The fans at SoBo are in for a treat as our Late Model field features many of the best Late Model drivers in the area. In addition, our Super Late Model fields are competitive as any in the country.”

CARS Tour events typically feature fields of about 20 cars for each of the two races. It is not unusual for the Late Model race to attract competitors from the track they are visiting.

The CARS Super Late Models feature 600 horsepower engines on a chassis weighing on 2,750 pounds. The CARS Late Models are very similar to the NASCAR Late Models that run regularly at South Boston.

Rice and her staff are working to put the finishing touches on the full 2017 schedule and expect to announce the entire slate in the next few weeks.

“We think we have put together a great schedule for 2017,” said Rice. “2016 was a great season for South Boston, but 2017 is going to be bigger and better for our fans and competitors.”
