Hendrick Wins 50th Anniversary Reunion Match Race
South Boston Speedway's 50th anniversary celebration kicked off Friday night with a Four Champions Match race featuring former South Boston Speedway NASCAR track champions Barry Beggarly of Pelham, N.C., David Blankenship of Mosely, Va., Wayne Patterson of Amelia, Va. and Roy Hendrick of Richmond, Va.
The four champions competed in an eight-lap race driving cars provided by competitors in the Legendary Ford Flathead Racing Association.
Hendrick, the track's first NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division champion, scored a flag-to-flag win with Blankenship, Beggarly and Patterson trailing in order.
Blair Wins Legendary Ford Flatheads Racing Assoc. Race
Following the Four Champions Match Race, the competitors of the Legendary Ford Flatheads Racing Association raced in a 20-lap event.
Sixty-eight-year-old Bill Blair of Thomasville, N.C. won the event with Tom Corns of Kernersville, N.C. finishing second, about three car lengths back. Randy Apple of Reidsville, N.C. took third place with Jerry King of Burlington, N.C. and Jack Hale of Franklin rounding out the top five finishers.
Hale, while finishing fifth overall, was the top finisher in the Sportsman division. |
