Dillon Davis’ First Pure Stock Division Race Win at South Boston Speedway ‘Right Up There’ With His First-Ever Stock Car Racing Win

SOUTH BOSTON, VA (May 22, 2025) – It is always exciting to see drivers earning a first in NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series events at South Boston Speedway.

Two firsts were celebrated during the May 10 event at South Boston Speedway as Dillon Davis earned his first career Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division race win in a 25-lap race that night and 14-year-old Tristan Brunelli won the 50-lap Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division race, earning his first career win in a stock car race.

Davis, who resides in Nathalie, Virginia, won Rookie of the Year honors and finished third in the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division point standings last season but was unable to pull out a win. That changed in the May 10 race, the fourth race of the 2025 season for the division.

“It was great,” Davis said of the experience of winning the race and celebrating with a large contingent of family and friends in Victory Lane. “I think everybody on the team really enjoyed it. It meant a lot to have everybody that was there to be there with me.”

Earning his first career win in the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division is a special accomplishment for Davis, almost as special as when he won his first race while competing in the Dollar General Hornets Division.

“The first one ever is the best one,” Davis said in comparing his two firsts, “but this one is right up there close to it. I don’t take it for granted.”

A win can create a lot of positive reinforcement for a driver.

“It’s a big confidence boost,” Davis pointed out. “I know we have to continue working hard to get better. Winning makes it a little easier working on the car every week, and it makes it easier to keep coming back to the track every weekend.”

Davis had his hands full in the race, taking the lead from former division champion Scott Phillips of Halifax, Virginia on the 11th lap and then having to hold off a strong bid by current division points leader B.J. Reaves of South Boston, Virginia in the closing laps to secure the win.

“I was worried there at the end,” Davis admitted. “B.J. was definitely fast. I knew he was going to have to be pretty rough on me to pass me.”

Davis’ win closely resembled his prior first success. He earned his first career race win in his second season racing in the Dollar General Hornets Division. Now, three years later, Davis earned his first win in the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division in his second year of racing in the division.

Also notable is that the win marked the latest stepping-stone of Davis’ 2025 season. He started the season with a fifth-place finish, placed fourth in the second race, was the runner-up in the division’s third race of the season, and won the season’s fourth race, climbing to second place in the division point standings, just seven points behind Reaves entering the Oak River Realty Race Night event on Saturday night, May 24 at South Boston Speedway.

While he has enjoyed some success, competing in the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division has been a little bit of a roller coaster ride for Davis.

“We started last season off pretty well,” he said. “We had a couple of mechanical troubles to get over in the first few races and we finally got the car to where it was running pretty well. Then we wrecked the car in about the fourth race of the season, and I really struggled after that. At the end of the season, the car came back around.”

That was evident as Davis finished second in the final race of the 2024 season and led 13 laps of the 25-lap race. That, and a lot of work during the off-season served as a nice springboard into this season. Still, there were questions about what the 2025 season would bring.

“I was a little worried at the beginning of the season,” Davis remarked. “I think we’ve got the kinks worked out of the car now.”

Davis and his fellow competitors in the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division will be in action in a 25-lap race when NASCAR racing returns to South Boston Speedway on Saturday night, May 24 with the Oak River Realty Race Night event.

Six races are slated for the Oak River Realty Race Night event with twin 75-lap races for the Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division headlining the night’s racing action. Twin 30-lap races for the Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division, a 25-lap race for the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division and a 20-lap race for the Dollar General Hornets Division will round out the night’s racing action.

South Boston Speedway will be Racing In Remembrance: Honoring Fallen Heroes, Veterans, and Active-Duty Personnel during the Saturday night, May 24 Oak River Realty Race night event. All active-duty military and veterans will get in free when purchasing tickets at the gate.

The event will also feature a special pre-race ceremony in honor of Memorial Day.
