SOUTH BOSTON, VA (May 28, 2026) – A somber remembrance and the best-of-the best drivers in the nation battling it out in an action-packed slate of NASCAR racing await fans Saturday night, May 30 as South Boston Speedway hosts the Oak River Realty Race Night event.

South Boston Speedway, in partnership with Mincey’s Graphics, will honor America’s fallen heroes with a special observance, Racing in Remembrance: Honoring our Heroes presented by Mincey’s Graphics during Saturday’s Oak River Realty Race Night event.

Fans have been given the opportunity to honor the fallen heroes of family and friends killed in the line of duty, held as a prisoner of war, or missing in action and never returned home.

A decal with the fallen hero’s name on it will be placed on each car competing in Saturday night’s Oak River Realty Race Night event. There will be a special pre-race ceremony including participation by the South Boston, Virginia American Legion Post 8 Honor Guard.

In addition to the Racing in Remembrance: Honoring our Heroes presented by Mincey’s Graphics observance South Boston Speedway is offering free admission for military personnel and veterans for the Oak River Realty Race Night event.

When it comes to the racing, fans will be treated to six action-packed races headlined by twin 75-lap races for the Hitachi Energy Late Model Stock Car Division.

Following is a look ahead at Saturday night’s Oak River Realty Race Night event.

The Best-of-the-Best Race at South Boston Speedway

When it is said the best-of-the-best drivers in the nation are competing at South Boston Speedway it is not idle chatter – the NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts Division I national point standings back it up.

The top three drivers in South Boston Speedway’s Hitachi Energy Late Model Stock Car Division point standings – Trevor Ward of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Landon Pembelton of Amelia, Virginia and Peyton Sellers of Danville, Virginia – stand first, second, and third respectively in this week’s NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts Division I national point standings.

In a closer look, regular South Boston Speedway competitors occupy four of the top five positions in the NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts Division I national point standings as young Conner Weddell of Centerville, Maryland sits in fifth place in the national standings.

Looking a bit deeper, there are six regular South Boston Speedway competitors in the top 11 of the NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts Division I national point standings. Veteran Bobby McCarty of Kernersville, North Carolina is in eighth place nationally and Blake Stallings of Danville, Virginia sits in 11th place in the national standings.

The national driver rankings were valid as of mid-day Wednesday, May 27.

Drew Dawson Remains in Top Tier of NASCAR Division II National Standings

South Boston Speedway’s Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division points leader, Drew Dawson of Nathalie, Virginia remains in the top tier of the NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts Division II national point standings.

Tristan Brunelli is coming off his second career South Boston Speedway win, captured in the first twin Limited Sportsman feature on May 16.

The national driver rankings were valid as of mid-day Wednesday, May 27.

Trevor Ward Gets Another Attempt at Family Record

Trevor Ward has another opportunity this weekend to break a family record by passing his father, former racing standout Dean Ward, on South Boston Speedway’s all-time career Late Model Stock Car Division wins list.

Saturday night’s twin 75-lap races for the Hitachi Energy Late Model Stock Car Division will provide two chances for Ward to break his father’s record at South Boston Speedway.

This isn’t about family bragging rights. It’s all about how much he respects his father’s accomplishments as a racer.

In winning the second race of the twin-race event on May 2 Ward tied his father on the track’s all-time Late Model Stock Car Division wins list with his eighth career win.

Johnny Layne Looks to Take Another Step Toward Record

Johnny Layne of Halifax, Virginia is closing in on the all-time career win record in the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division. Layne won one of the two Pure Stock Division races on May 16 to earn his 35th career win in the division.

A win in Saturday night’s 25-lap race for the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division will give him 36 career wins, one win shy of tying the mark of 37 career wins held by former division champion Nathan Crews of Long Island, Virginia.

Can Landon Milam Run His Win Streak to Four in a Row?

Observers of the Dollar General Hornets Division are wondering this week if Landon Milam can extend his win streak to four in a row.

Milam, from Keeling, Virginia, started at the rear of the field in the May 16 race, stormed into the lead with two laps to go and won the race, earning his third win in a row and his third win for the season. The win vaulted him to the top of the division’s all-time career wins list.

The division points leader has shown once he can speed from the rear of the field to take the win. He will try to repeat the winning performance Saturday night. Under the track’s handicapping rule, a driver having won two consecutive races must start at the rear of the field regardless of where he or she qualifies.

Six Races Set for Oak River Realty Race Night

With the nation’s top drivers on hand and six races on the card fans will be treated to great racing with Saturday night’s Oak River Realty Race Night event at South Boston Speedway.

Twin 75-lap races for the Hitachi Energy Late Model Stock Car Division and twin 30-lap races for the Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division headline Saturday night’s action.

The twinbill for the Hitachi Energy Late Model Stock Car Division will be the fourth of seven twin-race events for the division. The twin-race event for the Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division will be the third of four scheduled twin-race events for the division.

A 25-lap race for the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division and a 20-lap race for the Dollar General Hornets Division are also included on Saturday night’s slate of races.
