SOUTH BOSTON, VA (July 26, 2025) – After a lengthy rain delay pushed back the start of the night’s racing action by just over two hours Peyton Sellers and Jacob Borst found it well worth the wait.
Sellers and Borst split wins in the twin 75-lap Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division races that headlined Saturday night’s Boone Tractor Race Night presented by New Holland and Gravely event at South Boston Speedway with Sellers’ win enhancing his efforts to win a record-breaking eighth South Boston Speedway championship and Borst’s win providing a big boost to what has been an up-and-down season.
Sellers earned his sixth win of the season and his 64th career South Boston Speedway victory in the opening 75-lap race, edging Landon Pembelton of Amelia, Virginia by .609-second at the finish.
Borst captured his first victory of the season in the second 75-lap race after starting fourth in the field due to an inverted start among the top eight finishers of the first race. He crossed the finish line 3.297 seconds ahead of Sellers and kept alive a streak in which he has won at least one race in each of his five seasons of NASCAR Late Model Stock Car Division racing at South Boston Speedway.
Sellers started on the pole in the first race of the twin-race event and led the entire distance, but not without some challenges from Pembelton along the way.
“It looked easier than it was,” remarked the Danville, Virginia resident. “The pace of the race was unbelievable. We had all that rain, the track was as clean as it could be, and we had fresh tires because we hadn’t qualified on them. We all had basically sticker tires. The pace was way faster than any of us wanted it to be, and everybody had tire issues because they were fresh and hadn’t had a heat cycle on them.”
Trevor Ward of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, who held a four-point lead over Sellers in the Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division points lead entering the twinbill, finished third with Blake Stallings of Danville, Virginia and Borst, of Elon, North Carolina, rounding out the top five finishers in the caution-free race.
It took Borst seven laps to work his way up from his fourth-place starting position in the second race and speed past pole starter Trey Williams to get the lead. Once in front Borst set sail as Stallings, Sellers, Pembelton and ward gave chase.
A caution for a two-car incident on lap 39 erased Borst’s lead but he got a great start on the restart and opened a lead as his challengers battled behind him. Sellers moved into second place on lap 44 but was unable to challenge Borst in the closing laps. Borst was a quarter of a lap ahead of Sellers at the finish.
“It is a big reward,” Borst said of the win.
“It feels really good. All of my guys have put in a lot of hard work. I feel like we’re back where we belong.”
Borst noted that this win is a special one. “My grandma passed away a month ago to the day,” Borst pointed out.
“To win tonight is one of my most special wins. She was definitely looking over us.”
Stallings finished third, Pembelton took fourth place and Ward rounded out the top five finishers in the nightcap.
Zach Peregoy Scores Win In 50-Lap Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division Race
Zach Peregoy of Clarksville, Virginia earned his second win of the season, edging Drew Dawson of Nathalie, Virginia for the victory in the 50-lap Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division race that was part of Saturday night’s Boone Tractor Race Night presented by New Holland and Gravely event at South Boston Speedway.
Peregoy worked his way past Dawson with 34 laps to go in the race and edged Dawson by 1.111-second to take the win and pad his lead in the track’s Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division point standings.
Newcomer Tyler Garretson of Centerville, Arkansas, Cory Dunn of Salem, Virginia, and Tristan Brunelli of Powhatan, Virginia rounded out the top five finishers.
Peregoy led twice for a total of 44 laps. Dawson led once for six laps.
B.J. Reaves, Zach Reaves Split Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division Twinbill
It was a family affair for the Reaves Family at South Boston Speedway Saturday night as division points leader B.J. Reaves and his brother Zach Reaves split wins in the twin 15-lap Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division races that were part of Saturday night’s racing action at South Boston Speedway.
B.J. Reaves of South Boston, Virginia started on the pole in the first race and led the entire race to earn his fifth victory of the season. Scott Phillips of Halifax, Virginia followed .920-second behind Reaves with Zach Reaves of Danville, Virginia finishing third, Dillon Davis of Nathalie, Virginia finishing fourth and Caleb Sanford of South Boston, Virginia completing the top five finishers.
The second race, which featured an inverted start among the top five finishers of the first race was one of the most thrilling races seen at South Boston Speedway this season with the top four drivers racing side-by-side and swapping positions for much of the race and the race ending with a thrilling photo-finish in which Zach Reaves edged Davis by .031-second to earn his second win of the season.
B.J. Reaves finished third behind Zach Reaves and Davis with Sanford finishing fourth and Andrew Turner of Sutherlin, Virginia finishing fifth.
There were three lead changes between Zach Reaves and Davis with Zach Reaves leading twice for a total of 10 laps and Davis leading twice for a total of five laps.
Landon Milam Takes Win In The 20-Lap Dollar General Hornets Division Race
Landon Milam of Keeling, Virginia edged division points leader Jason DeCarlo of Chase City, Virginia by 1.398-second to take the win in Saturday night’s 20-lap Dollar General Hornets Division race at South Boston Speedway.
The win was the fourth of the season for Milam who has won four of his last six starts.
Dustin Davis of Nathalie, Virginia finished third with Chris Penick of Rustburg, Virginia and Jordaine Penick of Meherrin, Virginia rounding out the top five finishers.
