SOUTH BOSTON VA (May 2, 2025) – Cameron Goble’s primary goal is to find success in his first season of competition in South Boston Speedway’s Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division. There is another goal he can potentially reach – that of either achieving a tie or breaking the record for the most career wins in the track’s Dollar General Hornets Division.
Those things present a balancing act of sorts for the Ringgold, Virginia resident.
After missing the season-opener, Goble competed in the twin 30-lap Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division races and the 20-lap Dollar General Hornets Division race on April 26 at South Boston Speedway. His debut outing in his Limited Sportsman car did not go as well as he had hoped. After a 12th-place finish in the first race of the Budweiser Limited Sportsman twinbill, his team made adjustments that improved the car, but a crash in the second race heavily damaged his car and prematurely ended his effort in that race.
Between the first and second Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division races Goble won the 20-lap Dollar General Hornets Division race, with the win giving him nine career wins in the division, one win short of tying the division record for the most career wins.
While Goble has a third-place finish and a win and sits only one point out of the lead in the Dollar General Hornets Division, he insists the focus remains on his efforts in the Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division.
“We’re going to focus on the Limited Sportsman car,” Goble said. “With the twins in the Limited Sportsman Division and the single race in the Hornets Division, I was dead. I was so tired. I don’t think I can do that every two weeks. I’m second in points and doing really well in the Hornets Division, but I’m going to let it pass on to somebody else.”
Goble was not aware at the time that his win in the April 26 Dollar General Hornets Division race gave him nine career wins and put him tantalizingly close to tying and breaking the record for all-time career wins in the division. Kevin Currin and Josh Dawson are tied at the top with 10 wins each.
“I haven’t thought anything about that,” Goble remarked. “I didn’t even know I had nine career wins. It would be awesome to tie or break the record. To tie or break any record is outstanding. Breaking a record of any sort is a huge accomplishment. The only thing above the all-time career wins is the championship, and I don’t have one of those.”
At this point, Goble and his team are working on getting his car back together for the 50-lap Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division race that will be part of the Viny’s Italian Restaurant and Italian Delight Family Restaurant Race Night event on Saturday night, May 10.
“I was coming up through the field well, got into an accident, hit the wall and tore the car up,” Goble explained of his mishap in the second race of the twin-race event. “It (the car) hit the wall pretty hard. It got almost everything but the clip. It bent both shocks, the rear end housing, panhard bar, pretty much everything.”
Goble is optimistic he can get the car back together in time for the May 10 event.
“I think everything is good,” he said. “I’ve got all of the parts I need. I just need to put it together. I’m going to cross my fingers that it will be just as fast as it was when I left the track.”
Goble has pretty much ruled out competing in the May 10 Dollar General Hornets Division race.
“I don’t think I’m going to race in the Hornets Division because we tore up the (Limited Sportsman) car and I’ve got to get my feet back up under me,” he noted.
While Goble will likely not compete in the Hornets Division race on May 10, there may be someone piloting his car.
“I might let D.J. Moser run my Hornets car,” Goble said. “He wants to try it. I’ve got to get a seat in it. If I can get a seat, he definitely wants to race it.”
The Viny’s Italian Restaurant and Italian Delight Family Restaurant Race Night event on Saturday night, May 10 will be the first night race event of the season at South Boston Speedway.
Six races are on the card with twin 75-lap races for the Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division headlining the night’s racing action. Fans will also see a 50-lap race for the Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division, a 25-lap race for the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division, a 20-lap race for the Dollar General Hornets Division and a 35-lap race for the regional touring Southern Ground Pounders Vintage Racing Club.
