SOUTH BOSTON, VA (September 16, 2025) – Drifting, a popular form of motorsports, returns to South Boston Speedway after a two-year hiatus on Saturday, October 4 with SOBO Drifts.

Spectators will see a full afternoon of thrilling drifting action starting at 11 a.m. and continuing until 6 p.m.

During the Saturday, October 4 SOBO Drifts event drivers will snake and slide their way through a course set up amid the speedway’s turns and through the infield area, bringing spectators all of the thrills and excitement that come with this form of motorsports.

“We are excited to bring drifting back to South Boston Speedway,” said South Boston Speedway General Manager Brandon Brown. “The level of the excitement that came from our fans during the brief exhibition prior to the start of our racing event on August 23 and the exhibition we had between races on September 13 was amazing. There is nothing like the sideways action, the precision of aggressive tandem runs, the sound of high-horsepower cars and tire-shredding smoke shows that spectators will see at this event.”

Adult admission for SOBO Drifts will be $10 per person. Tickets will only be sold at the gate on the day of the event. There will be no online ticket sales for this event. Kids ages 12 and under will be admitted free. Spectators will use the speedway’s Turn 4 gate for entry to the event.

Advance pit passes and crew passes will be available online on Pit Pay for $30. They will be available for $35 on the day of the event. Pit passes can also be purchased at the gate on event day. Driver passes will be available in advance online on Pit Pay for $60 or purchased for $65 on the day of the event.

Ride-Alongs will be included in the price of a spectator Pit Pass. Spectators can purchase a Pit Pass and then schedule ride-alongs with drivers on event day. All riders must be 18 years of age and older.

Pit Passes may be purchased for minors under the age of 18. Minors will need to sign a Minors Release Form and be accompanied by an adult age 18 and over. Only those individuals age 18 or older are eligible to participate in ride-alongs.

The popularity of drifting took a big jump following the release of the movie “The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift” in 2006. That movie involved car culture and street racing in its background and featured numerous exciting drifting sequences.

For those unfamiliar with the sport of drifting, the driver intentionally oversteers a car’s rear wheels forcing them to lose traction, while maintaining control of the vehicle with the car’s front wheels.
