SOUTH BOSTON, VA (October 17, 2026) – Treyton Lapcevich and zMAX CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour champion Caden Kvapil led a 1-2 sweep for JR Motorsports in the 125-lap CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour race that was part of Saturday night’s AutosByNelson.com Championship Night event at South Boston Speedway.
Mason Walters won the 100-lap CARS Pro Late Model Tour race that was part of the night’s twinbill and captured the series championship.
It was a double celebration for JR Motorsports as Lapcevich, in his first start with the team, surged past Kvapil in the late stages of the race to take the win. Kvapil, who had already clinched the CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car title, got to celebrate the championship following his runner-up finish.
“It’s cool to have JR Motorsports one-two, and congratulations to Caden on winning the championship,” Lapcevich remarked. “To be given an opportunity like this is cool. I can’t thank Dale Jr. and them enough for giving me a rocketship of a racecar.”
Lapcevich sped past Kvapil with just under 30 laps to go and held on to take the checkered flag by .773-second over Kvapil, who had netted six wins this season.
“It was a tough battle, two cars that were very fast,” Lapcevich said of making the pass on Kvapil. “I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to get by him because we were so locked down on the outside. I got even with him once on the bottom but couldn’t complete the pass. I gave him a little bit of a bump in turn one and was able to find grip low and get position on him.”
Former NASCAR national champion Connor Hall of Hampton, Virginia finished third in the Late Model Stock Car race with Conner Jones of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Kaden Honeycutt of Aledo, Texas, who won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Phoenix, Arizona the night before, finished fifth.
Honeycutt, who had won two of the four Late Model Stock Car races he had entered, and five of his seven Pro Late Model starts this season, saw his South Boston Speedway win streak end. He finished second to Walters in the Pro Late Model race before finishing fifth in the Late Model Stock Car race.
Entering Saturday’s AutosByNelson.com Championship Night event Honeycutt had won the last three races he had entered at South Boston Speedway - the 2026 Thunder Road Harley Davidson 200, the Krush 250 last November and the 2025 zMAX CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour feature.
“They can’t last forever,” Honeycutt remarked of the South Boston Speedway win streak. “We came with this new car, and I think there were some tendencies that it likes better than what we had back in the “200.” It was completely different weather and the track swung in the opposite direction from what I thought it was going to. This is probably one of the worst races we’ve had and it’s a fifth-place finish, so it’s still okay.”
Landon S. Huffman of Connelly Springs, North Carolina finished sixth, with Jared Fryar of Trinity, North Carolina, Parker Eatmon of Wilson, North Carolina, Carson Brown of New London, North Carolina and Keelan Harvick of Mooresville, North Carolina rounded out the top 10 finishers.
Team SoBo drivers Peyton Sellers of Danville, Virginia and Conner Weddell of Centerville, Maryland finished 13th and 15th respectively.
Walters entered the 100-lap Pro Late Model race needing a solid night to earn the zMAX CARS Pro Late Model Tour championship. He did better than that – earned the win, and with it, the series championship.
“That was the goal,” Walters pointed out after edging Honeycutt by .978-second at the finish. “Getting it done is just a big bonus. I felt I had to win this race for my guys. They really deserve it.”
The Catawba, North Carolina resident staged a dominant performance aided by stout restarts following the five caution periods that slowed the race to earn his third victory of the season.
“That’s one thing I’ve been working really hard on,” Walters explained. “I had been struggling earlier in the year. I got a couple of penalties. I’ve put my head down and tries to really focus on that. I knew I had the perfect preparation to execute on it.”
Brody Monahan of Waterford, Connecticut finished third, Lapcevich finished fourth, and T.J. DeCaire of Land O’ Lakes, Florida finished fifth.
Ryan Moore of Mooresville, North Carolina, Vito Cancilla of Martinex, California, Jack Baldwin of Mooresville, North Carolina, and Evan McKnight of Windermere, Florida finished sixth through ninth respectively. South Boston Speedway 2026 Late Model Stock Car Division champion Trevor Ward rebounded from an early-race incident caused by a flat left rear tire to finish 10th and led Team SoBo in the event.
Landon Pembelton of Amelia, Virginia, who finished third in the South Boston Speedway Late Model Stock Car Division standings this season, finished 13th. Pembelton, who was driving the car out of the GMS Racing stable that Dale Earnhardt Jr. had driver to a second-place finish earlier this season, was strong early, running in the top three through the first half of the race. A brush with the wall while attempting to lap a slower car and a subsequent pit stop put Pembelton down in the running order.
