SOUTH BOSTON, VA (May 13, 2026) – Race fans have a lot in store as South Boston Speedway partners with Feed Halifax to bring the Saturday night, May 16 Feed Halifax Driving to End Hunger Race Night event.

The Feed Halifax Driving to End Hunger Race Night event features a total of seven races including twin-race events for three of the track’s four NASCAR-sanctioned racing divisions. There is a lot more that makes for a big night. Following is a look ahead at Saturday night’s event.

Trevor Ward Leads Nation; Five SBS Drivers Rank in National Top 10

The best-of-the-best drivers in the nation compete at South Boston Speedway each event, and this week’s NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts Division I national point standings prove it.

Trevor Ward, the Hitachi Energy Late Model Stock Car Division points leader at South Boston Speedway, leads the NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts Division I national point standings.

The Winston-Salem, North Carolina driver is one of three South Boston Speedway “regulars” in the Top-5 of the NASCAR national standings and is among five regular competitors at South Boston Speedway that are in the Top-10 of the national ranking.

Other regular South Boston Speedway competitors in the top tier of the national ranking are Landon Pembelton of Amelia, Virginia (third), Peyton Sellers of Danville, Virginia (fourth), Bobby McCarty of Kernersville, North Carolina (seventh), and Conner Weddell of Centerville, MD.

The rankings were based on data as of Tuesday, May 12.

A Big Night of Racing

When it comes to the number of races held on a single event night, Saturday night’s Feed Halifax Driving to End Hunger Race Night event, with a total of seven races, stands as the biggest of the season.

Twin-race events for three of the track’s four NASCAR-sanctioned racing divisions is the most twin-race events scheduled for a single night.

Headlining the action is twin 75-lap races for the Hitachi Energy Late Model Stock Car Division. Fans will also see twin 30-lap races for the Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division, twin 15-lap races for the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division and a 20-lap race for the Dollar General Hornets Division.

South Boston Speedway can claim two national point leaders this week as Drew Dawson of Nathalie, Virginia leads the NASCAR Local Racing Series Powered by O’Reilly Auto Parts Division II national point standings.

Dawson, who leads the point standings in South Boston Speedway’s Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division is one of two regular competitors ranked in the Top-5 nationally. The other is Jacob Derrick of Hampton, Virginia.

Dan Rogers of Powhatan, Virginia, another South Boston Speedway “regular,” stands 12th in the national standings.

The rankings were based on data as of Tuesday, May 12.

Ward Eyes Family Record

Trevor Ward has an opportunity this weekend to break a family record by surpassing his father, former racing standout Dean Ward, on South Boston Speedway’s all-time career Late Model Stock Car Division wins list.

This weekend’s twin 75-lap races for the Hitachi Energy Late Model Stock Car Division will provide two chances for Ward to break his father’s South Boston Speedway record.

Ward’s desire to break his father’s record is not about family bragging rights. It’s all about how much he reveres and respects how great his father was as a racer.

In winning the second race of the twin-race event on May 2 Ward tied his father on the track’s all-time Late Model Stock Car Division wins list with his eighth career win.

“He’s always told me I had big shoes to fill,” Ward said with a smile at the end of the May 2 event.

“It was awesome to be able to execute that win and be able to say I’ve tied him for all-time wins here.”

Two More Drivers on the Cusp of Records

Two other drivers, Landon Milam and Johnny Layne, are on the cusp of breaking and closing in on win records in their respective divisions.

Milam, with a total of 10 career wins, is tied with former South Boston Speedway Dollar General Hornets Division champions Kevin Currin of Chase City, Virginia and Josh Dawson of Nathalie, Virginia at the top of the division’s all-time career wins list.

The Keeling, Virginia resident can break the record Saturday night if he wins the division’s 20-lap race. It will be a tough task. Milam swept the division’s twin-race event on May 2 and, under the track’s handicapping system, must start at the rear of the field Saturday night regardless of where he qualifies.

Layne, of Halifax, Virginia, has 34 career wins in the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division and is three wins shy of the record of 37 wins held by former division competitor Nathan Crews of Long Island, Virginia.

If he sweeps Saturday night’s twin 15-lap races for the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division he will run his win total to 36, putting him one win shy of tying Crews’ mark.
