SOUTH BOSTON VA (August 22, 2026) – Peyton Sellers used the three-week break in South Boston Speedway’s racing schedule to hit the reset button. It worked.
The Danville, Virginia resident sped past pole winner and division points leader Trevor Ward with 38 laps to go and drove away from the field to win the 100-lap Hitachi Energy Late Model Stock Car Division race that headlined the Davenport Energy Race Night event Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.
His margin of victory over runner-up Conner “C-Weed” Weddell of Centerville, Maryland was just over two seconds.
“The last race we qualified on the pole, led some, and Trevor was working on us when a caution came out,” Sellers explained. “We fell back after that caution. We worked on the car, got it better, freshened our engine during off-weeks and kind of hit reset a little bit. Here we are in Victory Lane. It was a good night.”
Sellers’ fourth win of the season at South Boston Speedway, was a special one.
“For us, right now, the biggest shot in the arm was winning on Davenport Energy Night,” the eight-time South Boston Speedway champion noted. “They have been with us a long time, and winning on their night is always very special.”
Weddell had another solid night, logging his third runner-up finish in a row and his fourth in his last five starts.
“It’s really good to run second here at South Boston Speedway,” Weddell said, “but doing it every week you kind of get tired of it. I feel like we’ve had a couple of shots to win. I feel we’re good enough. I look forward to coming back next week and competing for a win.”
Ward finished third, almost three seconds behind Sellers, with Blake Stallings of Danville, Virginia and Landon Pembelton of Amelia, Virginia rounding out the top five finishers in the 15-car field.
Ward continues to lead the division championship chase. However, Sellers with the win, has trimmed his deficit to Ward. Unofficially, the margin has dropped from 22 points down to 19 points with three races and two nights of points races remaining on the schedule.
Brunelli Wins 50-Lap Budweiser Limited Sportsman Race, Takes Division Lead
Teenagers Tristan Brunelli of Powhatan, Virginia and Brian Rundstrom Jr. of Green Bay, Virginia have darted to the top of the Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division championship points chase in the wake of their one-two finish in Saturday night’s 50-lap race for the Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division.

Brunelli staged a dominant performance, winning the pole and leading every lap enroute to his fifth win of the season. He edged Rundstrom by 1.654 seconds in winning the race. Jacob Derrick of Hampton, Virginia, Chris Elliott of Bullock, North Carolina and Stuart Crews of Long Island, Virginia rounded out the top five finishers.
The win has vaulted Brunelli into the division points lead, unofficially two points ahead of Rundstrom. Drew Dawson of Nathalie, Virginia entered the race with a one-point lead over Brunelli and Rundstrom who were tied for second. Dawson finished eighth in the race, dropping him to third place in the standings.
Two more points races remain for the division this season.
B.J. Reaves Takes Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division Race Win
B.J. Reaves of South Boston, Virginia came away with his first victory of the season Saturday night, taking the win in the 25-lap Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division race.

The defending division champion edged runner-up Dillon Davis of Nathalie, Virginia by .373-second in taking the win.
Division points leader Johnny Layne of Halifax, Virginia won the pole and was leading the race when a tire blew with two laps to go, ending his attempt to snare his eighth win of the season. Reaves inherited the lead and fended off Davis to earn the win.
Aaron Haley of Ringgold, Virginia finished third, his best finish of the season, Anna Mayo of Halifax, Virginia finished fourth in her best effort of the season, and Layne was credited with a fifth-place finish.
Landon Milam Earns Win In Dollar General Hornets Division Race
Division points leader Landon Milam of Keeling, Virginia had a big night, winning the pole and driving away from a swarming pack of Hornets Division racers to earn the win in the 15-lap race for the Dollar General Hornets Division.

Milam crossed the finish line 5.106 seconds ahead of his brother, Kendall Milam, to capture his fifth win of the season.
Cameron Moss of Danville, Virginia finished third, defending division champion Jason DeCarlo of Nelson, Virginia finished fourth and Kristian Armstead of Martinsville, Virginia crossed the finish line in fifth place.
The event was originally slated as a twin-race event, but a thunderstorm prevented the second race from being run.
Lockhart, Griffin Reign In Southern Ground Pounders Vintage Racing Club Event

The Southern Ground Pounders Vintage Racing Club made its final visit of the season to South Boston Speedway Saturday night, and two familiar faces were in victory lane at the end of the 35-lap race.
