SOUTH BOSTON, VA (September 9, 2025) – Soft, cuddly teddy bears can bring a smile, a sense of comfort and a sense of joy for youngsters. That is especially true for children that are hospitalized for treatment of an illness or injury.

To celebrate National Teddy Bear Day on Tuesday, September 9, South Boston Speedway General Manager Brandon Brown delivered NASCAR-themed Teddy Bears known as Speedy Bears to Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston, Virginia. The Speedy Bears were donated by the speedway through the NASCAR Foundation’s Speedy Bear Brigade Powered by Kaulig Giving program.

“This Halifax Community tradition is greatly appreciated by the caregivers of Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital,” said Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital President David J. Masterson, FACHE. “Recognizing that kids are not little adults when they are sick is a core value of our pediatric care and providing positive reinforcement and something to hug, on their terms, brings countless smiles and comfort to our smallest patients with the biggest hearts. We thank the NASCAR Foundation for this thoughtful outreach.”

Brown said the speedway appreciates the opportunity to make the donation and help brighten a young patient’s day and outlook.

“Everyone on our team at South Boston Speedway is very appreciative of this opportunity to donate teddy bears, and we thank Sentara Halifax Reginal Hospital for welcoming this outreach opportunity, Brown said.

“Partnering with The NASCAR Foundation to donate Speedy Bears to Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital is a wonderful way to brighten the day for young children going through difficult times. It is our hope that the Speedy Bears will provide comfort to the children that receive them and that they will bring smiles to their faces.”

The 2025 Speedy Bear Brigade is a collaborative program between The NASCAR Foundation and Kaulig Giving that provides NASCAR-themed teddy bears to children in more than 135 hospitals across the United States. Through this program, thousands of Speedy Bears are delivered annually as a celebration of National Teddy Bear Day.

NASCAR fans can join the Speedy Bear Brigade by making a $25 donation to The NASCAR Foundation to sponsor a Speedy Bear and send an inspirational message to a child in the hospital. As an additional incentive, Kaulig Giving will match each $25 donation made.
