South Boston Speedway Unveils 2026 Schedule; Season Opens March 21 with the Return of the King of the Modifieds Event

SOUTH BOSTON, VA (September 25, 2025) – South Boston Speedway officials have unveiled the track’s 2026 season schedule, with the season-opening event featuring one of its biggest events of the year.

The speedway will open its 2026 season on Saturday afternoon, March 21 with the SMART Modified Tour’s King of the Modifieds event, one of the country’s showcase Modified racing events. That event will feature many of the country’s top Modified drivers in a 125-lap race.

South Boston Speedway’s Late Model Stock Car Division competitors will also be in action as part of the season-opening event.

The King of the Modifieds event day will be the first of three scheduled special events on the track’s 2025 season schedule.

“We are announcing our 2026 schedule now to give fans, drivers, race teams, sponsors and other stakeholders as much time as possible to make their plans for next season,” said South Boston Speedway General Manager Brandon Brown. “We are extremely excited to have the SMART Modified Tour return with the King of the Modifieds race for the third straight season. The two previous King of the Modifieds events drew a great field of cars and drivers, and we had a great crowd on hand each time. Along with that, our Late Model Stock Car Division competitors will begin the chase for the 2026 championship at that event, adding to the excitement of our 2026 season-opener.”

The first event featuring all four of the tracks’ regular NASCAR racing divisions will be the speedway’s second event of the season, which is set for Saturday afternoon, April 4. The event will include races for the Late Model Stock Car Division, the Limited Sportsman Division, the Pure Stock Division and the Hornets Division.

NASCAR Weekly Series events are also set for April 18, May 2, May 16, May 30, June 13, June 27, July 11, August 1, August 22, August 29 and September 12. September 12 will be South Boston Speedway’s annual Championship Night, where all four NASCAR Weekly Series division champions will be crowned.

The 20th running of the Thunder Road Harley-Davidson 200, the kickoff race to the prestigious Virginia Late Model Triple Crown, will be held on Saturday night, June 27. The event, which will be South Boston Speedway’s second scheduled special event of 2026, will feature a 200-lap Late Model Stock Car race, a 40-lap race for the Limited Sportsman Division, a 20-lap Pure Stock race and a 15-lap Hornets Division race. A can’t-miss fireworks show will be held after the final race of the night.

The season’s first three events on March 21, April 4, and April 18 will be daytime events with the first race on those days starting at 2 p.m. All other NASCAR Weekly Series events are scheduled for a 7 p.m. green flag.

For the second consecutive season, drivers and teams in South Boston Speedway’s four NASCAR divisions will race for more than $75,000 in season-end monetary awards as part of the Championship Loyalty Bonus program Powered by Hitachi Energy and EMPOWER Broadband.

South Boston Speedway is also scheduled to host the zMAX CARS Tour again in 2026 with the zMAX CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour and the zMAX CARS Pro Late Model Tour making their stop at the .4-mile oval on a date to be determined. This will be South Boston Speedway’s third scheduled special event of 2026.
