SOUTH BOSTON, VA (June 29, 2025) – Connor Hall won Saturday night’s 19th running of the Thunder Road Harley-Davidson 200, marking the second straight season he has won the kickoff race of the Virginia Triple Crown presented by FloRacing.
And he did it in a totally different fashion, with a different team.
A year ago, Hall, driving for Nelson Motorsports, raced from the rear of the field to pull off the win. Saturday night Hall, who drives for JR Motorsports, won a tough battle with pole winner Matt Waltz, gaining the advantage over Waltz a lap after the restart that followed a caution period with 79 laps to go and driving away at the end to edge Waltz by 1.799-seconds at the finish.
Hall’s win was worth a total of $10,250 which included the $10,000 winner’s prize and a $250 prize from Southside Disposal for being the leader at the end of Stage 3. The win also guarantees Hall a starting position in the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 at Martinsville Speedway in September.
“It’s awesome,” the Hampton, Virginia resident said of his second straight Thunder Road Harley-Davidson 200 win.
“To be able to win a Crown Jewel race once in your career is pretty cool and to win it twice is awesome and back-to-back even more cool. I’m a huge four (wins) behind Lee Pulliam but at least mine are consecutive.”
South Boston Speedway track NASCAR officials declared the finishing order behind Hall unofficial following the event.
Waltz led the first two stages and led the first 121 laps of the race only to lose the lead to Hall following a restart in the early portion of the second half of the race. After that restart, Waltz found himself having to battle Tate Fogleman, Darren Krantz, Jr. and Ryan Millington, opening the door for Hall to build a clear edge.
Krantz, from Long Island, New York, crossed the finish line in third place with Parker Eatmon of Wilson, North Carolina and Ryan Millington of Statesville, North Carolina unofficially rounding out the top five finishers.
All three drivers at the top of the South Boston Speedway’s Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division point standings had a bad night. Trevor Ward of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the track points leader, unofficially finished 20th. Peyton Sellers of Danville, Virginia, who trailed Ward by one point entering the race, unofficially finished 25th. Landon Pembelton of Amelia, Virginia, who was in third place, three points behind Ward, unofficially finished 31st in the 38-car starting field.
The race was slowed by nine caution periods, that included six cautions and three stage cautions, and two red flags.
New Winners Emerge In Limited Sportsman, Hornets Divisions
Two new first-time winners earned trophies Saturday night at South Boston Speedway with Zach Peregoy of Clarksville, Virginia winning his first career Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division race at South Boston Speedway in the division’s 40-lap race and defending Dollar General Hornets Division Champion Jordaine Penick of Meherrin, Virginia earning her first career in that division.
Peregoy led twice, starting on the pole and leading the first 21 laps before losing the lead to Atley Wiese for seven laps, and then regaining the lead and holding on for the final dozen laps to pull out the win.
He edged Ayden Millette of Hampton, Virginia by .561-second in earning the win. Wiese, from Hayes, Virginia, finished third, with Lane Woods of Vinton, Virginia and Cameron Goble of Ringgold, Virginia rounding out the top five finishers.
Penick staged the best performance of her young racing career, starting on the pole and leading the entire 20-lap race. She edged Jason DeCarlo of Chase City, Virginia by .709-second in earning the win.
Landon Milam of Keeling, Virginia, Max Sangillo of Farmville, Virginia and Chris Penick of Evington, Virginia rounded out the top five finishers.
B.J. Reaves Wins; Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division Race Results Are Unofficial
B.J. Reaves of South Boston, Virginia earned his fourth win of the season in Saturday night’s 20-lap race for the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division. Reaves won the pole for the race, led every lap and crossed the finish line .551-second ahead of former division champion Johnny Layne of Halifax, Virginia.
Track NASCAR officials declared Reaves the winner of the race, but the remainder of the finishing order is unofficial.
Scott Phillips of Halifax, Virginia crossed the finish line third with Zach Reaves and Colby Pool unofficially rounding out the top five finishers.
