SOUTH BOSTON, VA (June 7, 2025) – The two most prolific winners at South Boston Speedway this season, two-time NASCAR national champion and seven-time South Boston Speedway champion Peyton Sellers of Danville, Virginia and the track’s current points leader, Trevor Ward of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, split wins in the twin 75-lap Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division races that headlined Saturday night’s God’s Pit Crew Race Night event at South Boston Speedway.
Sellers earned his fifth win of the season in the opening race, edging Trey Crews of Halifax, Virginia, driving a car out of the Stallings Racing stable by just .306- second. Landon Pembelton of Amelia, Virginia, Blake Stallings of Danville, Virginia and Jacob Borst of Elon, North Carolina rounded out the top five finishers. Ward finished 14th in the first race after being forced to the sidelines just past the halfway mark with a broken front suspension.
Sellers finished fifth after starting eighth in the second race due to an inverted start among the top finishers of the first race.
“It was a good night,” Sellers said of his win in the opener and fifth-place finish in the second race.
“I qualified on the pole and won the first race. The fans got a show for sure with Landon and I racing each other and Trey racing us. It was a good night of racing.
“I just didn’t have quite enough tire left in the second race to make anything count,” he added.
Sellers applauded Crews’ effort in the opener. It was just the third start of the season for Crews who has driven Blake Stallings’ second car on two previous occasions this season. He led three laps of the race.
“Obviously, the boy can drive,” Sellers remarked. “He just needs to be racing something full-time. He had a good night.”
Sellers led twice in the first race for a total of 72 laps. Crews led once for three laps.
Ward, who entered Saturday night’s twinbill in second place in the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series national standings, started 14th in the 16-car field in the second race and quickly worked his way to the front of the field.
He worked his way up to third place by the 19th lap and began challenging Pembelton and Sellers who were immersed in a tense battle for the lead. By the 28th lap, he was within three car lengths of Pembelton and Sellers.
Ward worked his way past Sellers on the 34th lap, and after racing Pembelton side-by-side for 10 laps, moved into the lead on lap 47.
Once in front, Ward quickly pulled away from his challengers. He crossed the finish line 4.580 seconds ahead of Pembelton to earn his fourth win of the season. Crews had another good outing with a third-place finish. Stallings finished fourth and Sellers rounded out the top five finishers.
“Our mentality was just to get up to the top three and try to pull it out,” Ward explained. “We realized when we started the race that we were a little better than those guys. We ran only 40 laps the first race and had a little better tires, and we were able to capitalize on it. It was hard to beat Pembelton, but we raced clean and I was able to inch by him, get some clean air, and set sail.”
“I wish I could have finished the first race for national points, but the win should still put us in position to win the championship.”
There were two lead changes among three drivers in the second 75-lap race with Ward leading once for 29 laps, Pembelton leading once for 36 laps and Kyle Dudley leading the first 10 laps of the race before being involved in a mishap with Jacob Borst that sidelined both drivers.
The twin-race event marked the midpoint of South Boston Speedway’s schedule for the Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division as the twin 75-lap races marked races number nine and 10 of the 18 races slated for the division this season.
It was also the final event prior to the Thunder Road Harley-Davidson 200, the first race of the Virginia Late Model Triple Crown, which is set for Saturday night, June 28, at South Boston Speedway.
Woods, Drew Dawson Score Wins In Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division Twinbill
Two drivers that had been winless this season in South Boston Speedway’s Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division scored their first wins of the season, splitting wins in the twin 30-lap Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division races that were part of Saturday’s God’s Pit Crew Race Night at South Boston Speedway.
Fourteen-year-old Lane Woods of Moneta, Virginia sped past Zach Peregoy of Clarksville, Virginia with five laps to go and edged Peregoy by .282-second to win the first of the pair of 30-lap races.
Drew Dawson of Nathalie, Virginia, Jared Dawson of Nathalie, Virginia and Jason Pittman of Chester, Virginia completed the top five finishers.
The race was highly competitive with Woods and Peregoy swapping the lead three times. Peregoy led twice for 11 laps and Woods led twice for a total of 19 laps.
Drew Dawson won the second race which finished under caution due to a multi-car mishap on the frontstretch on the final lap, with 14-year-old Trace Daniel of Sutherlin, Virginia finishing second, the best finish of his young auto racing career. Tristan Brunelli of Powhatan, Virginia, who held the division points lead entering Saturday’s twinbill, finished third. Cameron Goble of Ringgold, Virginia and Bob Davis of Thaxton, Virginia rounded out the top five finishers.
There were three lead changes among three drivers with Drew Dawson leading twice for a total of 24 laps. Collin Hilton of Eden, North Carolina led the first five laps of the race and Peregoy led one lap.
Goble was not successful in his bid to compete in four races in one night, as he competed in only the twin 30-lap Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division races. He finished 12th in the first race and bounced back in the second race to finish fifth and earn his best finish of the season to date.
Kendall Milam Earns First Career Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division Win
Kendall Milam of Keeling, Virginia took the lead from division points leader and pole winner B.J. Reaves of South Boston, Virginia with two laps to go and edged Reaves by .248-second to win the 25-lap Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division race Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.
The win was Milam’s first career win in the division.
Dillon Davis of Nathalie, Virginia, Jacob Sanford of South Boston, Virginia and Colby Pool of South Boston, Virginia rounded out the top five finishers.
Jason DeCarlo, Landon Milam Split Dollar General Hornets Division Twinbill
Division points leader Jason DeCarlo of Chase City, Virginia and Landon Milam of Keeling, Virginia split wins in the two 15-lap Dollar General Hornets Division races Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.
DeCarlo led the entire race and sped across the finish line 1.113 seconds ahead of Milam to win the first 15-lap race and earn his second win of the season. Dustin Davis of Nathalie, Virginia, Max Sangillo of Farmville, Virginia and Chris Penick of Rustburg, Virginia completed the top five finishers.
Milam won the nightcap which had an inverted start among the top three finishers of the first race, taking the lead from Sangillo on the second lap and leading the remaining 14 laps to earn his third victory of the season.
DeCarlo finished second, 2.696 seconds behind Milam with Davis, Sangillo and Penick completing the top five finishers.
Saturday night’s twin-race event was the second twin-race event held in the division’s history.
