SOUTH BOSTON, VA (November 11, 2025) – South Boston Speedway’s 2025 division champions and award winners were honored Thursday night during the South Boston Speedway Awards Banquet with Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division champion Peyton Sellers of Danville, Virginia taking home the lion’s share of the awards.
Sellers won his eighth career South Boston Speedway Late Model Stock Car Division title in one of the closest, most intense points battles in the track’s history. He eclipsed the previous record of seven championships held by David Blankenship of Moseley, Virginia who won his last title in 1998.
The Danville, Virginia resident received a $20,000 payout as part of over $75,000 in season-end bonuses awarded to South Boston Speedway competitors this season through a lucrative Championship Loyalty Bonus Program sponsored by Hitachi Energy and EMPOWER Broadband. The Championship Loyalty Bonus Program provided awards for eligible drivers in all four of South Boston Speedway’s NASCAR-sanctioned racing divisions.
More than $100,000 in awards were presented during the event held at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in Danville, Virginia.
“It’s still sinking in,” Sellers said of winning his eighth career South Boston Speedway Late Model Stock Car Division title. “It’s been a lot of fun. It’s been a good journey. I’ve enjoyed every second of it. There have been a lot of Saturday nights spent at South Boston Speedway, a lot of test days getting ready for race. A lot of preparation has gone into it year after year and to still have the passion that H.C. (his brother and crew chief H.C. Sellers) and I have to do it, and mom and dad are with us every week. We’ve always done it as a family. That’s what it’s all about for me.”
The former NASCAR national champion said this year’s championship is one of the sweeter ones.
“When you win one by two points and it comes down to the last race and knowing you’ve got to beat one car and you beat him by one spot, that’s a nail-biter,” remarked Sellers. “The last 30 or 40 laps of the last race I was waiting on a spark plug to foul out or waiting on the rear end to start leaking grease or something happening. It was nerve-wracking for sure. To have it (the championship battle) as close as it was at the end, nobody gave it (the championship) to us.”
Sellers edged runner-up Trevor Ward of Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the championship by two points. The pair were tied in points entering the final race of the season. Sellers won the 100-lap race with Ward finishing second, giving Sellers the title by a narrow two-point margin.
Consistency was a hallmark of Sellers’ championship effort. His season record included a division-high seven wins, a division-high six pole wins, 14 Top-5 finishes, and 14 Top-10 finishes in his 18 starts. He also led a division-best 622 laps.
Joining Sellers in celebrating track championships were Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division Champion Zach Peregoy of Clarksville, Virginia who won his first career division championship, B.J. Reaves of South Boston, Virginia who won the Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division title for the second season in a row, and Jason DeCarlo of Chase City, Virginia who won his second career Dollar General Hornets Division title.
Peregoy received $3,000, Reaves was awarded $1,000 and DeCarlo was took home $500, all a part of the Championship Loyalty Bonus Program sponsored by Hitachi Energy and EMPOWER Broadband.
Peregoy won his first career Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division championship in 2025, edging 14-year-old Tristan Brunelli of Powhatan, Virginia by 14 points in winning the championship.
The 2025 season was the best of Peregoy’s young racing career. He earned his first career win and finished the season with two victories. Peregoy also earned a division-high five pole wins, logged seven Top-5 finishes and had a division-high 12 Top-10 finishes in his 13 starts.
Reaves earned his second straight Southside Disposal Pure Stock Division championship this season, finishing 21 points ahead of runner-up Dillon Davis of Nathalie, Virginia.
The 2025 season was a stellar one for Reaves who finished with a division-high five wins, tied his brother, Zach Reaves, with a division-high three pole wins, and had a division-high 12 Top-5 finishes in his 12 starts. Reaves also led a division-high 134 laps.
When it comes to consistency, there was no equal to DeCarlo in the Dollar General Hornets Division. In winning his second career Dollar General Hornets Division title DeCarlo either won or finished second each time he raced. His season totals included four wins, 1 pole win, and 12 Top-5 finishes in his 12 starts.
Division runner-up Landon Milam of Keeling, Virginia who finished 12 points behind DeCarlo in the championship chase, also had a stellar season. Milam had a division-high six wins, a division-high four pole wins, and led a division-high 105 laps.
Among special awards presented during the event was the 2025 Sportsmanship Award, which was presented to well-known engine builder Brian Tanner. The Sportsmanship Award is one of the most prestigious awards an individual can receive because it speaks to character and reputation both on and off the track.
A pair of South Boston Speedway Spirit Awards were presented, one to Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Virginia and one to Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division competitor Bob Davis of Thaxton, Virginia.
Anderson, who competes part-time in the Sentara Health Late Model Stock Car Division, serves as a liason between the drivers and race teams and the track’s officials, management and owners. Not only has he assisted competitors in every division and assisted the speedway in many ways, Anderson has assisted the track in its various charity endeavors.
Davis, a multi-year competitor in the track’s Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division, was recognized for his faith, enormous sense of perseverance, determination and never-quit attitude. Not only has Davis waged tough battles on the track, he has waged and continues to wage a hard-fought battle with a cancer, which he has had since early 2023. Since that time Davis has continued to compete and be one of the division’s top competitors.
One Rookie of the Year Award was presented, with the award going to teenager Tristan Brunelli of Powhatan, Virginia. Brunelli was the runner-up in the Budweiser Limited Sportsman Division.
